HW97 or ASP20

Between those two, I would personally go for the HW97. Maybe in a different cal than your TX200. It’s proven and I can tune it to my liking.

The ASP20 is very new on the scene and not sure all kinks are worked out yet. That being said, it’s very appealing and you could probably get one on sale if patient at a great price. Reviews on it so far have been mixed.

The under lever HW97 is great for accuracy but is a lot more expensive than the Sig ASP20. The Sigs accuracy is close to the HW97 but generates a lot more energy than the .22cal HW97. The trigger is better on the Weihrauch but you'll love the ease of cocking on the Sig. I for one, like gas spring airguns better than coil spring types. The only negative reviews I see about the Sig is the trigger. It is fair, to good, in my experience with this gun. For a hunting rifle it's not that bad at all. Given all this, I'd go with the Sig in .22cal.

As far as scopes go you will get many opinions. All depends on how much you want to spend.

They are completely different. The 97 is a nice rifle, functionally the same as your TX, but the stock isn't as nice. The SIG is ugly, big, and hard to cock, but it has power. If you want a 20 ft lb springer the SIG is the way to go. The only issue with my SIG is I haven't got the hold sorted out for elevated field targets yet. As long as I am shooting level it is great.

The Sig is hard to break the action (easy when you figure out the leverage mechanics) but very easy to cock. I'd agree with size of the Sig. It may not be a good choice for people of smaller stature.

I am a trigger snob, and the Sig 2 pound trigger is a deal killer. Also unlike the TX200 you get a choice of stocks with HW. I like thumbhole stocks.

If you want a good gas ram breakbarrel get the Diana 340. I have the Luxus model, Luxus means walnut stock. Mine is very beautiful curley grain. Accuracy compare directly with my TX200. Trigger is very nice T o 6. Diana offers a more powerful model but mine is 17 ft/lbs and firing cycle is sweet.

I have been watching the Sig ASP20 and have owned an .177 hw97k for about three years. The hw97k is by far my favorite springer. Super accurate and easy to service. I have at least 20,000 shots through mine with zero issues. I’ve read most everything I can find about the Sig and don’t yet have enough confidence to go ahead and make a purchase.

Shooting the hw97 is a pleasure. It is a wonderful gun. I have put far more rounds through my Sig asp20 in .177 than the hw97. I find the accuracy of the 97 to be slightly better (for me), but the power of my Sig makes it a better choice for me. You have a tx200, so the Sig may me a better choice? My Sig has a vortex diamondback mounted and it has been a perfect scope with THOUSANDS of rounds under it.

What are you using it for? That might help decide the gun as well as the scope..

As far as the trigger...the rekord is obviously what it is. The sig trigger I find to be extremely good. Easy to predict, nice pull feel, crisp. I haven't tested it, but feel it's below 2 lbs, and for my purposes it does it's job exceptionally well. No complaints here.

I just purchased a HW97. I haven’t shot it much, so I can’t speak to that. When comparing the fit and finish to my ASP 20, the Sig does not come close, but the Sig is quite a bit cheaper, so I consider it a wash. The Sig’s accuracy is very good and is limited by my shooting ability. My issue with Sig is the trigger. My 1st stage trigger travel would not stay fixed to my adjusted amount. After about 30 shots I have to re-adjust same. I sent it back to Sig for repair. They took delivery 3 weeks ago. I don’t have any idea when I’ll get it back. I can only surmise that the gunsmiths at Sig are overloaded with warranty repair work.

I sent my Sig back because it didn't perform velocity wise as claimed. I was getting 22 ft lbs when many were getting 24 ft lbs and over. Got mine back in apx 28 days from the time I sent it and got it back. Now it shoots 13.3 gr Wraith alloy pellets at 890 fps in warm weather. The Sig Crux lead pellets at 14.7 gr average 860 fps. I was pleased with Sigs Customer Service Dept.

i cant see anyway that the sig can hold a candle to the overall performance of the 97. imho. justa wild guess.

It is comparing apples to oranges. If you compare the SIG to a RWS 460, you get a more even comparision. The SIG is has a smoother shot cycle, but the are both hard recoiling. The SIG is a great piston gun "for it's power level". If you compare it to a tuned (especially 12 ft lb) HW97, the 97 will be easier to cock and easier to shoot.

I have both; the 97 Black Line in .22 and ASP20 beech stock in .22. Keep in mind that both are different animals. Springer versus gas ram. I have a good ASP and have had no problems thus far. Both are amazingly accurate. The Sig has more kick and must take a bit more care and concentration with hold when shooting due to the different trigger. I have not done much adjusting the trigger on either and while they are different I make the adjustment quite well. I would assume since you have a TX you probably would appreciate the HW more based on what I have read about the TX. I have not shot the TX. I often thought if I could have only one, which one? While it should be the Weihrauch, the Sig is a good rifle. And I am fortunate not to have to choose. The Sig being the newby on the block I took a chance and am quite happy with it. Weigh YOUR options regarding history, tune-ability and what you are going to use it for. I have consistently hit birds and squirrels hard at 70+ yards with the Sig. Not as hard but effectively accurate at 50-60 yards with the HW. Good luck with your choice.

Just a follow-up to my Sig Sauer customer service episode described in previous posts. The rifle was returned 6 weeks to the day of initial shipment. The gunsmith’s notes indicate that a “vibra-tite/locktite”like material was applied to the first stage trigger travel Allen screw necessary to keep it from moving during operation. I shot approximately 40 pellets through the rifle and find the problem solved. So, other than the long wait, I’m satisfied with the repair.

... i'd take the gamble and get a .22 asp20 with the whiskey3 scope they offered with it initially.... sooner or later , you'll find a $300 used hw 77 or 97.....i found an older hw77 carbine for less than $300 , and it had that larger diameter tube from the 80's or 90's or whatever.....wish i had kept that longer , but i didnt like underlevers then.... ag's of az has the .177 diana 430L underlevers on for $199 now , i got mine a month ago when they were $230 w/out scope and zr mount , but now i wish i had just paid the $270 for the gun, scope, and mount.... that gun is in the closet until it COOLS OFF here in ft.worth ... ag's of az told me to send in the one-piece diana lockdown mount they tossed in after they explained they were out of those scopes and mounts now, and it was gun only....but just got an email from darren telling to send that older mount back in for the new zr 'slider' mount..... my buddy anthony found a .22 hw77 full length for under $300 somewhere (pawn shop ?).... and he LOVES his more than his walther lgu's .... but i betcha he still likes his .22 air arms pro-elite better than the older hw77 , and the 820 fps pro-elite would be a very close comparison (size, weight and power, anyway) to the newly released .22 sig asp20 in beech stock.... these gas strut / piston guns are not very 'tuneable' , tho ... we can put lighter springs or heavier tar inside the hw97's to smooth them out..... if you're shooting field target get the expensive hw97 (in 5mm with laminate stock even) ... but if youre killin stuff , the sig ... i cant believe golenstateairgunner's story with sig cust service !! ...he really put that .22 asp20 he got when they were first available through the ringer , man . . . . but now he gets these numbers ?? that's like a .22 diana 460 , man !! { Now it shoots 13.3 gr Wraith alloy pellets at 890 fps in warm weather. The Sig Crux lead pellets at 14.7 gr average 860 fps. I was pleased with Sigs Customer Service Dept. } - keep bending lead !! - paul .

Interesting ! Wonder if Sig is going to apply Loctite at the factory before they get to the sales shelf?

Perhaps so, I’m not sure. That said, As I understand it, Vibra-Tite remains pliable after installation, which allows screw adjustments if necessary. As long as my trigger travel remains fixed, I’m happy.

I just shot 20 Sig Wraith 12.35 grain alloy pellets across my crony. The results show an average velocity of 866 FPS, good for about 20 fpe I consider the rifle accuracy superb at 50 yds. According to ChairGun, the pellet energy delivered at 50 yds is about 12 fpe. That’s not bad.
