HW90 help needed

No leaks in breach. Put on different scope mount and cronied. Average 555 FPS and accuracy was non existent. When cocking the 90 it feels like the stock is going to splinter, and makes other HW’s seem effortless to cock. I’ll put to rest till kit comes and I can make more manageable. yonyb please post results, I hear nothing on HW90’s. Thanks again for advice. Crow

I believe that your piston seal is damaged and as the others have said a chrono will show this up with wide variation in FPS . I had a similar problem with my 95 and this was the seal that had to be replaced. Good luck.

Thanks I have no idea, Unfortunately this was my first break barrel I purchased, coached by my buddy. 3 yrs. ago. My 2nd least used. My shoulder hurts just talking about it. It’s as bad as my Hatson Model 130. I don’t think I put 10 rounds through that tank.
Since reading this forum I’ve lightened my guns. Last week got a HW50S .177, nite and day difference from the 90, love it.
My buddy on other hand, can’t understand the switch. He was my only contact with airguns till I fell here,(Internet not my forte).
When I get kit for 90 which is on order I’ll ask for advice here. Crow

Gas rams will always have a higher cocking effort when conpared to a spring gun. The gas ram is a short stroke gas cylinder that needs to generate power in half the distance a spring travels. Your seal could have been damaged during assemble so it might pay to check it out. Your velocity sounds low for the cocking effort required. Try different weight pellets, heavier is not always better as weight can change the shot cycle. Unfortunately you need extras in order o make the gun shoot well, like a hand pump, and big assortment of pellets. You need to find the pellet your gun likes, not the pellet you want to shoot! Get the rifle consistant over the chrono first!! Then make sure your scope and mount is up to the job. Gas rams can be as hard or harder on scopes and mounts that typical springer are. I would recrown the barrel to be sure that is not an issue. If you dont have the tools or ability to figure this out then go see Dave Slade, he will be well worth his cost!!
