HW44 vs Crosman 2240 @ 50 yards.

Well I tried to do this once before but ran off and forgot my scope and pellets it's wonderful to be brain damaged and old cuz you always have something to blame it on.

Anyway I managed to get it together this time. It was raining and nasty out with winds at 3-7mph but this part of the range is covered so it's all good. I only had 5 different pellets for the test mostly JSB but had the CP's too. First I tested all five pellet types for five shots in each pistol and then picked their favorite for the test. The HW seemed to like the Hades best for some odd reason. The 2240 did it's best with the JSB domed 15.89gr. I was able to tune a little, adjust the hammer spring, with the 2240. I still have more to do yet. I don't know about tuning on the HW44 as of this date. This will likely change as tuning and pellet choices are werqed out.

That little bit of tuning shrank the groups with the 2240 by half an inch which is the only reason it beat the HW. Other wise they would have been tied. The HW had the advantage of a way better scope even though I turned it down to 4 power to match the scope on the 2240. The 2240 had a slight advantage on pellets as I have heard the Hades don't do well in wind.

I just posted these HW44 .177 and .22 groups on another thread. It’s 40 yards and off of two bags with a scope. These pistols are incredibly accurate!

Yes, a few changes were made.

2240 gripframe, hammer and modified valve and valve stem.

2250 tube

Custom Air breech with brass adapter I made to fit the barrel liner

FX STX .22 barrel liner shortened to 14 inches

1" carbon fiber shroud with Delrin and aluminum adapters I made for the liner

Made an aluminum trigger and added one of Steve's early steel adjustable sears

DAQ hammer spring adjuster

I thought I made the fake co2 cart but this one probly came from Mac1

System-X dropforward with 2500 psi macroline

It will run on co2 or 850-1600 psi of air

The .177 shoots JSB 10.34 best. And the .22 likes the 13.43 JSB. It just makes the smile stay on your face when you are shooting these pistols. That 2240 is beautiful. Tomorrow I’m going to try my custom Steyr LPS at the same distance. It will beat the HW44’s. Yeah I know... it’s a rifle without a butt!😁

Yes, I think we be cheating just a little with our barrel lengths. Mine is 14 inches yours looks near that. The HW's are just under 10".

love to see how you custom fitted the FX barrel, is there an existing thread for this?

I did not thread anything ;^) it is all slip fit and held in place with set screws. Made this style of adapter for the liner to breech fit. Drilled all the way through for the pellet then drilled larger but not all the way through for the liner and added the port. When the liner is slid in it butts up against a hard stop, where the adapter is only big enough for the pellet, just before the port. There are a couple of o-rings there they get smashed down pretty tight and then the set screws are tightened down through the top of the breech.

Actually had a long post on the breech install and comparison to a Taiwan made breech but it disappeared from the forum a couple months back for some unknown reason.
