HW44 .22 pellet testing today

Kind of a rainy day but wind was acceptable at 3-5MPH so not to bad of a day for some pellet testing at 50 yards since I am under cover. I shot this target with the four pellets listed on the target and another with Beeman FTS with groups over 1.5" and some twenty year old Crosman CPs that looked like I had used a shotgun to shoot the group which is quite different from my earlier sessions with the gun when the CPs printed a 1" group. So, not worth a pic. All groups are five shots.

All in all the gun shoots a wide variety of pellets fairly well. This thing shoots nearly as good as my SKS-19 rifle at the same range.














 
Question. Im new to air guns and ive been looking into getting the hw 44 for some time now. Some people i see shooting this gun on youtube get a mich lower velocity than the advertised 690-700 fps. Closer to 525-550 fps. Is there a reason for this? Once more, im very new to air guns or guns in general.

It boils down to pellet weight and caliber. .177/4.5mm pellet weights can be had from probably 5 to 10 grains in weight. In .22/5.5mm pellets can be had probably from 9.5 to 21 grains in weight. The lighter the pellet the faster it will travel and the heavier the pellet the slower it will travel. Speed and power isn’t everything, accuracy is more important.

I managed 750+fps with the .22 14.3 JSB pellets so about 18fpe. Here in the USA we get the higher powered FAC guns many other countries are limited in caliber and FPE or speed output. Like the above post states also pellet weight of 9 to 30+ grains can greatly influence the velocity and FPE of the gun.
