HW100 SK .22 - New out of the box target & chrono work

Shot off a tripod and hog saddle for the chrono and target work this past weekend. Pulled patches right off and was dirty, greasy, like axle grease. Rifle is shooting up to 3 magazines (42 total) from a fill, as spec'd by Weihrauch for the 35J, 41cm bbl and rifle length air tube. Happy with that for now.

Based on this weekend's shoot gonna give the 18.1gr dblos a go for a while. The Hades were shooting OK at 30YD, but fell apart at 58YD, along with the JSB 15.89s. Was rockin' windy, 3-7MPH, mostly in the face. The Hades were loopy for sure, could see em heading down range. Targets are 3/4" dots and 2 inch stickers. Might spend some more time with the NSA 20.2 gr as looks like has some promise. Have some Knockouts and FX Hybrids to try later. No rush. Eighteen-one's for a while.

Overall fit and finish of this Weihrauch is beyond expectations. Performance-wise, I get the loyal following now, and proud to join the ranks. Support, sale and shipping from AoA was their typical A+ service I been getting. After I put all the toys away I still have that faint scent of walnut on my hands. The best. Scoped with an Optisan CP 3-12x32 from Trenier, which, as well I am really surprised at present in what I am seeing through it.

That’s a beauty and a good shooter to boot. I keep reading about the HW100 having bad barrels in .22 and yet again this one shoot just fine. I’m a big fan of these rifles myself and would consider them built to the same standards as the upper end powder burners like Tikka . Congrats on the new rifle .

Weihrauch had a batch of bad 0.22 barrels several years ago, I had one. But that problem is long since fixed. I bought another HW100 .22 last year, and it shoots great. Mass social media is great for disseminating information, but it often sticks around past its shelf life.

Thanks for the great write up. I just purchased a 177 full sized bullpup from AoA yesterday. It should be here no later than Friday. I am really looking forward to exploring all of its possibilities. I became a Weirauch fan after purchasing an HW44. As you stated, the form fit, engineering, and functionality of their weapons is superb.

That looks like a Euro FAC model or something. The US FAC carbine looks like a fishing pole compared to that.

To me your gun pressure it too low for 18.1's. Actually I would just set up the JSB/FX 18.1 at 875fps then move it up and down 15fps in 5fps increments. You will probably get your 40yd accuracy to go out to close to 75yds. I guess with that little air tube you might not get many shots at all.

What kind of full power shot count are you getting with 18.1's where you are at with just over 800fps?

@austin870 You were totally right about the mounts in another thread of mine, flip-flop plates, *ugh*. Gun is the 35J FAC 410mm bbl and larger (175cc?) air tube, and am getting the full 42 shots with the 18.1s.

I am actually considering backing the power off some (26 --> 20FPE) and looking for a lighter pellet that is consistent in this barrel. More for yard target practice at the home range of 55YD. However, will gratefully take your advices on setting up for longer ranges with the 18.1s. Prolly something for down the road.

Sun's out, no wind for kites, so the pellets shall fly. ATB.

Interesting results with pellet speeds and brands. My Revere is getting similar speeds, but I find the Revere to be far more accurate with the 15.89 JSBs than the 18.13s, even out to 70 yards. The Revere does equally well with the diabolo pellet as it does with the Hades pellet. I tuned my BSA to shoot the 18.13 at 875-880 fps. I find that speed works well with that weight and pellet design.

I also have a HW 100 carbine, and it's a great rifle. You're probably not going to be able to get the 18 g pellet up to the 880 fps range, unless you crank up the reg set point quite a bit. And then your shot count will suffer further. I believe my .22 HW 100K ended up around 830 fps with a well balanced tune at the factory reg setting. The build quality of these rifles is outstanding, and accuracy is typically very good. If you don't need higher power or shot count, they are hard to beat. Like a lot of European rifles, I expect the HW 100 was designed around the 12 fpe platform, and it would be an excellent shorter range or yard rifle in that configuration. Good luck with your new HW, I'm sure you will like it.

Bambuino... I think you have the best configuration available for an HW100. I have the HW100 FSB in 177 which I think was another great configuration. With the current US FAC carbine at about 48" and the sporter at 54" I just can't see buying one.

I was sad to see the HW100 abandon the shrouds for a surf pole length moderator. They just needed to improve the baffles on the FSB. I can push the 13.4 Monsters to just under 850fps which is about all they will stay stable at.

I think you are right elh0102. The HW100 was designed around the short range/yard rifle. It was designed to compete with the Daystate Regal not the RAW 1000.

I have my HW100 TK tuned to shoot 15.89's at 885 F.P.S. and 28 F.P.E. for squirrel hunting. I get 28 shots before it comes off the regulator and it is supper accurate. It has the 175 cc tube and 16 inch barrel, with a overall length of 41.5 inches, NOT 48. The only thing I don't like is the steel air cylinder makes it front heavy.

Thank you everyone for weighing in on this, and for offering up what your rifles are shooting at. Shot out some cards and a whole lot of spinners over the weekend. Was light wind so gave several rounds of CPHPs, 15.89s and 18.1s, doping against the tables ChairGun put out. Find speeds have not changed much since got this rifle last weekend. That's good. Although the 18.1s are spot on for me at present, had some success with 15.89s, and seemed to shoot flatter, so maybe give a week with those. Ordered some tins of AA Field 16gr'ers from Baker (they have 18 left).

The gun is kinda hefty -- just not used to that, coming from a little TalonP as my main shooter. Not mention a smaller PP750. Ordered a set of sling studs for the bipod. From the UK got here in six days RM/USPS. And a sling, cause definitely need take a wrap when shooting standing. Fortunate for me the gun, scoped and all, balances in the palm right at the rear stock fastener. So, although a bit heavier, it balances well when brought to shoulder.

Power is not so much my concern, nor shot count. A modestly powered ~20FPE rifle for the yard is perfect. That my yard gets steady breezes with gusts, even better. I need practice reading wind and making good holds. So, the accuracy has to be there out to 50YD, otherwise I prolly get frustrated. Just a thing I going through, mebe.

Target cards are 1 inch stickers, 5 shots for see where groups, and another 5 hold practice.

The Weihrauch site and all marketing literature refuses to list the overall length or any of the guns since they started putting moderators on them. I stand corrected the FAC Sporter is 48 1/2" long with moderator. I can' find one piece of documentation on the total length of the carbine with moderator so I will take your word for it and it does make sense if you try to put the puzzle of parts togeather.

Weihrauch specs say "model HW 100 is equipped with a muzzle-break as standard." Yep, PCP's with muzzle brakes... lol. It is a way they can avoid giving measurements with moderators.

Yeah, the Weihrauch site, in particular that table...yeah, that table made me seasick trying to make heads or tails of things. I never get seasick, drove commercial passenger vessels for years. Mine measures about 41-1/2". I don't think I would have gotten any longer a rifle for sure. Had the guys at AoA on the phone, their tape measure in hand.

Think I will be ordering an extra set-back trigger from Rowan (shift + click), cause of my stubby digits. Gives a 10mm set back. Any US makers of such aftermarket items?
