Hunting vs farming for meat helps preserve ecosystems….

I think hunting, fishing and conservation is the one shining example our government has in the success column. With the way our regulations have been implemented we’ve seen huge increases in wildlife populations in most wild parts of our country. It seems that hunting and fishing are very sustainable with the number of people doing it NOW, and that number is declining by most reports.

👍 Very well said.

Would like to see something done about sharkfin harvesting.

True Hunters and fisherman of old were the ones who pushed for regulation and conservation of wildlife. The commercial hunting and fishing industries weren’t sustainable. I am fully for strict regulation in the commercial fishing industry. Some commercial fisherman consider it their resource but it isn’t it belongs to everyone. I’ll said basically the former to a rancher who tried get me off a public land grazing lease as I was hiking through, he said his land I said public, as long as I don’t bother your cattle I have right of way, we were also prepare both prepared to be civil as the saying goes an armed society is a polite society.

Oldcrow,

I don’t know how to handle the cutting off of shark fins and throwing the shark back in to become sea food. I think the best way is find a use for the shark carcass, whatever it may be, from fertilizer to food. I don’t like the outright ban of things because the people pushing for the ban don’t stop when the goal is met. We’ve seen this with our neighbors to the North and their Bear hunting. I think it’s British Columbia that just recently outlawed bear hunting and now the population has grown out of control. No food for the bears and problem interactions between bears and humans. The people that are trying to protect the animals are quite literally saving them to death. Throw in an international market that we have zero control over and it gets tricky. Plus in today’s time you have absolutely no clue if information that is being dished out is true or false, good intentioned or bad intentioned. Really screwed up!

You can eat shark. Many people do. It is a firm white flesh. Tastes like a blow toad. Quite good actually. Stingray is also often eaten. It is a rich, dense white meat similar to scallops.

Finning sharks and throwing the carcass back is done to conserve storage space in the ship for the more valuable fins. The practice will eventually do to sharks what the insane idea that rino horn is an aphrodisiac has done to the Rino's.

Ain't China a great world citizen?

I've been fishing since back when I can remember, it's my first hobbie and still love it. Thanks to us humans the ocean is so full of nasty sh!t it is not funny. Sharks are apex predators and will eat tons and tons of contaminated fish to before they get killed for their stupid fins. Eating sharkfin is dumb as it gets but now it's full of lead and mercury and all the other crap we dumped in the ocean. Those shark fin lovers should enjoy all the heavy metals and forever chemicals. Karma is a BITCH!

" Ain't China " go ask the buffalo of the western plains.

Sorry, could not resist.

Ps, I am UK based, feel free to point out the obvious.

GOOD LUCK.

With respect, sir.

Myxomatosis. ...

Now you reply, "smallpox on blankets". And I say, "Wait for the next virus out of China."

But yes your point is well made thanks for grounding me.
