Hunting/truck gun of choice

So I’m in a predicament (as usual).
I absolutely LOVE my wildcat mk2, but I find that I don’t shoot it as often as I’d like. I spend most of my time pesting between my back yard, and my permissions, but lately, I find myself shooting out of the window of my truck more and more, or needing to reach for that ‘compact’ gun.
I think I’m in need of something to meet these needs. Something compact, light weight, but I’m an accuracy snob.

ive been looking at the leshiy classic, which checks a lot of these boxes, but the air capacity kind of turns me off. I also really like the maverick compact. The versatility, compactness, air capacity, and large magazine are all enticing features, not to mention the amount of dealer and aftermarket support to change it into almost anything you can dream of.

I guess my question is, with this criteria, what would you all be shooting for pesting and hunting duties?

im sure things are different if your from the UK .. i got the benji bulldog specifically to blast bambi out of the window lol ... if its chipmunks though yeah, an urban or my choice would be p-rod ..

I’m originally from the uk, but I reside in Connecticut now. Lol.
bulldog is overkill for me. I would love to own one, but it’s just not practical for what I currently need!

sorry if I’m coming across as a negative Nancy. This is why I’m having such a hard timing deciding what I want. After this talk I went to check out the wildcat mk3 compact, but at that point, don’t I just keep my wildcat and put a 500mm barrel on it? Oh the decisions!!

Edgun Lelya 2.0

First, I agree with @blejda a Taipan .22 Vet Compact would be a great option. I have the 25 Taipan Vet Compact, it is beast in the field, and would be a great option as a truck gun. However, I want something different in the rebuilding of my collection.

As part of my decision making process I have and asking a ton of questions about these 3 in 22 cal: Leyla 2.0, Argus 45 W, and Caimen. What I have settled on is the Leyla, because I don't want to be a beta tester again, I want a proven and solid platform, the Argus is new, so is the Caimen. One thing though that removed the Caimen from the list is that whole wood stock ended up making me nervous, I am surprised AirMaks didn't make a polymer version of the stock.

Also, I was considering an Urugan Compact in .22, but it probably isn't as field durable with the floating barrel.

Here are the requirements finally decided I needed for the gun:

1) Tried and proven platform in 22 caliber / 5.5 mm

2) At least 30 to 40 usable shots

3) Under 25 inches (slap into a backpack if needed) thick timber friendly

4) No more 7 lbs / 3ish kg (unscoped)

5) I can adjust the power within reason, but don't have to spend hours just to get a harmonic tune.

6) Also, a design simple enough as long as the parts, I can field strip it and repair it myself.

7) With a reputation of being able to take a beating, and Solid enough that if I run out of pellets I can use it as a club :D to defend myself from the marauding hordes of squirrels

8) Bullpup designed to be one thing a "True Hunter/ Built for Purpose and accurate out to 65-70 plus yards as long as I do my part.

The only gun I found has met my requirements is the EdGun Leyla 2.0 in 22 cal.

Some time in June I plan to put in an order for a Leyla.

I asked this same question and I was helped by Crossman999 (Dana). He helped me worked my options down for a truck gun. Reliability, accuracy, lightweight for an airgun, easy to operate quickly, but most of all he showed me I can keep the gun below $2000 and have a lifetime squirrel killer.

His post had lots of options. I ended up with a Cricket 2 in .25 CAL from georgiaairguns.com from Charlie Frear because I wanted to shoot from 30-100 yards reliably. Retired Firefighter from Florida and a super nice guy. Always answers the phone, will give you all day to answer questions. I wanted light so he took the .22 CAL skeleton stock and put it on my .25. Lost a pound of weight. The gun will be right around 7 pounds. He's upgrading the reg, test firing, finding the best pellet, testing for leaks and getting a moderator on it for nice quiet follow up shots, which his important in the field, and changing out the pressure gauge to a Wiki 315 BAR instead of that color coded one on it that is just a guess on pressure (somewhere in green, right?. This at all for no extra charge, plus 2 extra magazines, and still cheaper than the stock ones from AOA.

This is just one option of course, the Lelya 2 is a wonderful gun and I would own that, if not for the Cricket through Charlie. Also the classifies are full of wonderful rifles that are perfect truck guns. I am waiting on a Leyla 2 in .22 cal on the classifies (I missed the last one), they don't come often for a reason. EdgunWest.com has them for $1680, FYI. They are backordered but only about 4 weeks according to Brian.

With that said, I own an FX Impact 2 compact 30cal. Brand-new from SPAW with their power tune. Shoots amazing, but she's heavy, surprisingly heavy for a compact. 10.8 pounds with scope and that's with only stock parts on it. All I have added is Athlon mount, Meopta Scope, and a rifle sling. The FX impacts can be truck guns but, field not so much doing off hand standing shooting.

The reality is no matter what you get you will enjoy it! That's the magic of airguns.

Check out the post link and go to where Crosssman999 helped me. https://www.airgunnation.com/topic/did-i-make-a-mistake/page/3/?view=all#post-985561. Might give you some ideas. Also a few pages back in the classifieds there was a new Brocock and a new Argus for sale for a great price in .22 from a trusted well known seller.

Also don't discount Jefferson State Air Rifles with their Mini Raptor. You want power, accuracy, durable and light at an incredible price for the options? Check them out. Oregon made rifle.

Dale Riggert said these guns shoot his varmint knickers extremely well out of the box. Check out his full and fun interview on https://www.theairgunpodcast.com/podcast/tap-season-2-ep-1-varmint-knockers-slugs-how-to-tune-your-airgun-for-them

Any votes for the wildcat mk3 compact? Having already had the wildcat mk2 600mm, it would be a small learning curve for me. Also a lot of aftermarket support, and the ability to caliber change.

Just about everyone likes FX rifles. Utah and Arizona both said out of their stock that was the rifle for me to buy for lightweight hunting. Honestly I was scared off of the FX rifles at first because they can be complicated and I am just beginning. But if you have experience with the rifle in the last generations, I guess the questions is, why are you not buying it?
