Was able to join my buddy for the day in our pasture for some ground squirrel hunting. The pasture is overgrown since the ranchers have yet to graze their cattle over it. Opportunities were few and far between as the critters used the concealing grass quite effectively. Edges of the overgrowth were exceedingly close, between 25-35 yards. I haven’t shot that close since last year when we started culling them. Back then it was them that was the overgrowth! They were everywhere, on tree stumps and fallen trees. But we did a lot of hunting and the yardages grew as the heard was thinned. This spring it was 80-140 yards to get shots to them. Now that the spring rains have given the grass for them to hide in, we took what we could get. Only a fraction of what was out there. But shooting close on the 5 or so I could today reminded me of how far I’ve come. And the majority of that progress was made by the good people on this forum. Cheers!
