Hunting Pellet for PROD

Your PROD will most likely not achieve a high enough muzzle velocity to expand any hollow point. You will spend more money on H&N and you most likely will achieve no better results than with the CPHP;s

The following article addresses this. I know your PROD will achieve a little more fps than the pistol mentioned but it will still not achieve enough FPE to expand a hollow point. Remember the P in PROD is Pistol. Good luck with your quest. If you find one that expands with the PROD, please post your results.

Mine shoots both Polymag shorts well but I pretty much keep my P-rod sighted in with H&N FTT's 14.66 so I don't have any actual hunting experience with the Polymags.

Much to my surprise the regular Polymags fit in the magazine and group well but I only tried that once and didn't see enough of a difference to justify the longer version.

Mine did not do well with Crow Magnums.

I consider wadcutters to be a hunting pellet at close range and my P-rod has shot a variety well. I believe Meisterkuegelins (spelling?) were the best.

I to believe shot placement is more important than pellet expansion.
With that said. The JSB Hades on average do more damage than basic domed pellets. I shoot them out of my P-rod at approximately 630 fps Now I am using a Marmot Militia barrel. So your accuracy may differ. Most of my experience is shoot rats and lots of mice. At distances of 4 to 30 yards.
30 yard (lucky ) head shot on a mouse. At night . Using JSB hades in my P-rod

If you want to see how .22 hollow points perform on actual game or in simulated game (ballistic gel, preferrably not clay or play-dough or water, which result in great and unrealistic expansion...):

🔺 Here's a thread with photos and the expansion measurements of 50 expansion tests.

https://www.airgunnation.com/topic/%f0%9f%94%b4hollow-point-pellets-testing-how-much-they-expand-and-how-far-they-penetrate/?view=all#post-916780

🔺 At the beginning of that thread you'll find some links to a complete series of threads about terminal ballistics -- the science of killing better.... 🤣

Included there is a list of hollow point pellets in .22, and their specs: weight, hollow point expansion potential, BC, likely maximum ranges at with they will still expand.

Happy killing, Mark! 👍
