Hunting in California

Unfortunately in California you’re not supposed to hunt pheasants with air guns. It goes in the upland game category. Hence the name game *

I truly think that is ridiculous considering you could take shots at pheasants on the ground with their gun and ethically put them down .

I agree. I'd take head shots. You'd either miss them (and they fly away) or your up one bird for your bag limit.

I live in southern Sonoma county. In the city of Sonoma. Wine country. Wild Turkeys are everywhere but I hear there pretty nasty to eat. Lots of quail since the recent rains so I'm looking forward to season opening.

You would not want to eat a jack rabbit unless you want to get worms from it LOL

Cottontail isn't much different in regards to worms. But cooking eliminates worms in rabbits and hares. That said, I know everyone says you can't eat Jacks but that really isn't correct. Just make sure you remove all skin layers and it isnt tough at all.

I live right in the middle of the state in the central valley but I enjoy hunting in the foothills just east of where I live. I live in a town Called Escalon .

I’m surrounded by corn fields , dairies and I live on an on an orchard

Nice area for airgunning! With all that farming targets must be easy to come by ! You're near Manteca.

Yes👍🏻 I noticed a lot more eurasian collared doves in the area .. this morning I was fortunate enough to get a couple .. if you’re in my area ..? you mentioned Manteca * feel free to give me a message and we can do some shooting .. usually there’s no activity until late in the evening. an hour before sundown, or early early morning. Collard doves are legal to take year-round* once it starts cooling down they’ll be more activity

I just read your post about Calif. and talks about legalizing air guns for game animals. A couple of months ago I petitioned the Calif. Fish and Game Commission (FGC) to allow big bore air rifles for taking medium to large game in Calif. The have kept in touch with me and advised that the FGC reviewed the petition and have now sent it to the Dept. of Fish and Wildlife for their recommendation. The FGC rep. did tell me that they are very aware of the capabilities of the big bores and are very interested in making the change. He further advised that they will probably model Calif.'s Air gun rules to shadow Arizona and Texas. As of last week I tried to get an update. I was informed that the review board was out of session but due back in within the next week or two. He said that as soon as he gets the recommendation that he will notify me. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

Hate to be a downer, but that will trigger a lead ban for air guns as well as PB's....NOT what we want.

You might be correct. Also, as powerful as airguns have become it's just a matter of time before they are regulated like firearms. Just wait until criminals start using them for gangster hits because of reduced noise. I see it coming.

You know it has entered all of our minds that criminals can do horrific things. However I’m not going to limit what I would like to do with air guns like hunting. I am not a felon if they do a background checks so be it. It’s one of the disadvantages of living in California having a vast majority of the population being liberal with liberal ideals. Laws come there’s nothing we can do about that unless we move. As far as a dumb gangster. Good luck them figuring out hold over
