Huge Pigeon Hunting Video

"iride"Good shooting, I really like your videos, The Pigeons are going to catch on , Your going to have to go in stealth mode.
Mike
I don't over hunt there, my. New replacement .at cal Armada shipped from crosman today so as soon as my LDC from Neils Special offer comes in its game on.
From the accuracy I was getting from the Armada I had to send back it will be a head shot machine.

"peterdulux"I've been in pigeon rich enviroments with piles of droppings. The dust that gets kicked up from the pigeons can make you very sick. I had two bouts with pneumonia from doing some barn clearing and an abandoned building.

Google pigeon feces to learn the dangers so you are at least aware.

It sure is fun, isn't it.
I have been woried of this, I haven't gotten sick from it yet but many with the cooler weather coming I might look in to a face mask type respreator or a medical mask, I Will definitely look into it Thank you.

And its is Super Fun

Yes, do be cautious. My first bout was real bad. I now understand why people can die from pneumonia. It was very painful.

If I may be so bold as to suggest something to smooth out your videos.... I have been using trigger sticks for the last several years and they have really helped with accuracy and steadiness. The are smallish, light weight and with the ability to extend or contract with the pull of the trigger, they can be used on any terrain. Here is a link.
Bi Pod[/QUOTE]http://www.primos.com/products/trigger-sticks/bi-pod/embed/

I've never looked back since using them.

Enjoy the vids. Make more, don't get sick.

I have looked at these a lot at the store and did the cost vs benefit thing, I would always talk my self out of getting a pair but I think your absoutley right they would make life so much easer and the gun and camera would not clunk on the window frames.

What is your opinion about the one with 3 legs?
I ask because Crosman just shipped me a new replacemen .25 cal Armada and with my scope, upgraded stock, and camera it weighs a bit and I am thinking I might get more stability out of not having to have a supporting hand on the Shooting Sticks.

I want one but I need the right one...
I have even looked at the Cadwel Dead Shot but I have to think what is realistic to carry around. I have to walk in and up 6 flights of stairs and pack every thing back out.

I have even given thought to the possibility of turning my camera tripod in to a shooting platform too.
Kind of a duel purpose rig although I don't think it's built tough enough, I have a light weight one a friend gave me.

I need to look at the options and get something.

I have the bipod and my friend has the tripod. The tripod is a little too big and cumbersome. Takes longer to get the three legs set.

Bipod, drop the legs and shoot. Quite a bit lighter too.

Tripod eliminates wobble, obviously, bipod will move forward and back, but thats easy to control.

Buy it, try it, keep it clean and if you don't like it, return it. Get full length. Tall enough for elevated shots, depending how tall you are.

The mask would only help for particulate air pollution. Is that what causes the pneumonia? You might also do a public (and personal!) service by shoveling some of it out the window, one day.

I think you talked me into a trigger stick tall bipod.

X27, FWIW, I think you could do OK without the separate camera, or make it a simpler rig. Like maybe just a clip for your phone with a tripod mount screw, instead of a separate video camera. The main footage your viewers are interested in are the shots, and those are good through the scope cam.

I don't think the pigeons will get educated. The ones that fly off only know there was a scary noise, but not necessarily that it was danger. They'll come back. They're not the brightest birds. Probably the smallest brain per body size. (except maybe an ostrich or something) The ones that get hammered don't live long enough to be educated, when you're taking shots of more than 10 yards.

The Armada will do wonders for your shooting. I think it's inherently a more accurate gun at > 20 yards than the P-rod. You'll be able to take head shots at < 20 yards, and body shots out to 50, and with probably half the noise too. If you're having moderator work done, it'll be only the sound of the hammer hitting the valve and the pellet impact. If you can spine them, just above the chest, so they just slump over, it might not spook the others. (esp. at night)

"Willie14228"Talk about a target rich environment. Those buildings can be dangerous though
Believe me there are places there where I don't go, and I have moved things like boards with nails in them out of my walking path. Just go slow and stay safe.

I grew up next to an old condemned grain elevator used to take my pump up Crossman pellet gun up in it until a cop caught me sneaking in past a gate. He took me to a spot in the back where the augers used to be and showed me holes that were something like 20 feet deep deep and half full of water. Then he took me home and visited with my dad.... man he lit my ass on fire. So I started shooting critters out of our pecan trees. I wish I could find an old pump up like that again. It was a pistol with target grips 5 pumps and she was ready to go accurate as hell

"crosman2016"Nice shooting, and great video! I have one question though, what was that strange sound, just before the shot?
In high speed filming mode the camera does not record any sound so pretty much every sound you hear I had to add in. I also in places speed up slomotion footage to look like normal time to cut down on the overall length of the video.

Also when editing for sound and video you notice funny things for example the camera picks up a small non noticeable to the shooter mechanical sound micro seconds before the BANG I assume it is the trigger sear releaseing, and in frame by frame view before every shot the gun dips ever so slightly then the bang and recoil, I attribute this to the pressure placed on the trigger in order to shoot, this small dip was my cue to add in the gun shot sound,

Sounds you may have heard that I added in:

Ambiant background noise - it would have sounded weird with out this.

Into Slomotion sound effect - to make a audiable cue when going from normal to high speed footage.

Slow heartbeat sound - added to slow motion sceens. I thought this might be cool effect, kind of like in a big Hollywood action movie sniper sceen.

Slow gun shot and pellet hit - add to the realism. Sound is of my gun shooting and the pellet hitting a pigeon at that location in real time then slowed down to match the speed of the slomo footage. I matched up the sounds to coincide with the actual shot and pellet hit on screen.

Out of slomotion sound effect - an audible cue when going from slow motion to normal speed footage.

Hope this answers your question if not tell me at what time in the video the sound happens and I can pinpoint it for you.
