Huben.... SUPER DIRTY barrel

Still in the learning curve with this rifle. Accuracy went down a little...so I decided to clean the barrel. First ballistol patch came out like it was dipped in black paint. As well as a dozen more. This was with the moderator core removed. Ran a lead wipe patch through it and several more........unending black patches came out. After about an hour........finally got close to clean......just seems weird to me. Always used washed,unlubed JSB pellets.

My Impact and Wildcat come clean in no time by comparison. I did do a quick clean on the Huben before the first shot to make sure I got anything that should not be in the barrel out before I started rubbing pellets down it. All but a few shots were under 1,000 FPS. Maybe a couple hundred shots total.........

Yummy!

That's wild, as mentioned above, I can actually put 500-1K rounds of Fed Red .22LR through my 10/22s,
and when I patch the bbls, the cotton doesn't come out looking even close to as grimy.. Weird..

Have you cleaned THIS bbl before? Or was this it's first cleaning? Just curious..
I've had a few rifles that came from the factory looking about 1/2 as bad straight outa' the box..

It seriously looks like a black powder gun patch.

Can't imagine where it comes from unless there is grease or something in the air cylinder.

If you have ever melted down any JSB pellets they

have a lot of black stuff floating around on the top .

Those JSB pellets are not as clean as you think they are .

The pellets he was using were cleaned and no lube.

That's way to much residue to be from just the pellets.

It's got to be coming from the tank or porting or valve cylinder. Maybe assembly grease was to liberally applied.

Often new guns are like this. It is either from the manufacturing process or maker put this grease into it avoid rust or oxidation inside the barrel.

The last few inches of the barrel is vented with tiny holes in the shroud. It's has been oil free around those holes until today. I shot 8 lubed (Ballistol) slugs and that lube did show up as weeping around those shroud vent holes.......so I don't think the crud in the barrel is coming from the internals of the rifle.

I can see the slug lube spraying out with the shot and getting things a little messy in the moderator. But as he stated above not only no lube but only washed pellets.

It has to be coming from the gun unless it's pulling carbon out of thin air which I doubt

How are you filling Huben? Electric air pump or from a tank? Maybe your filter sys. needs changed. Just a thought.

Yh compressor with vertical water trap , compressed desiccant beads and cotton filter. The other cotton filter at the fill probe is ... and always has been clean and dry. I have very good air with a dehumidifier running. It takes several months for the indicator beads to turn pink. The descant beads need to be compressed to work efficiently...otherwise the air moves past the beads without giving up as much moisture.
