Huben Hammerless K1

I received my Huben yesterday and having not even shot it yet i considering returning it just based on the overall quality of the gun.

For $2000 that is cost me to buy here in Europe i did not expect a gun with a coated plastic stock but was expecting something at least close the the synthetic stocks of the Cricket or Wildcat but instead this is a a heavy plastic stock that has been coated to look like the finish of the above.

The magazine itself does not seem to be coated and has the look of an antique rusted metal.

The shroud does not work very well at all and having 10 other pups i can say that every single one of those are quieter then this and neither have i ever been disappointed with any of my other gun purchases but there is always a first and the Huben is it just based on the overall quality.

The $1500 US price is more towards what this gun might be worth although i have seen better build in cheaper guns.

Hi Parrots
Can you post some photos of what you describe so we can see the difference of the Pre-production guns to the production gun that you received?
I have some good photos of the stock and the magazine so we can see the difference. I think that people wanting this gun should see the difference so they can make the right choice. I for one am saddened if Huben cheapened the gun from the Demo gun.

I already packed the gun up for return in wood box. But did take some pictures on my phone so will upload them and post here this afternoon.

Overall i was surprised how cheaply they made this gun using plastic and what looks to me t be cheap metals with the mag and trigger linkage. There is even plastic within the action although not sure what purpose that serves. Maybe just something to stop the pellets dropping out in to the stock.

Petnderk, It is not hard, Remove the push pin located midway on the stock in front of the trigger housing. Then remove the screw that holds on the air adjustment valve dial.
Once that is off you will see a castle nut that secures the stock on to the valve tower. Use caution with this so you do not mess up the valve. I adjusted my valve to the fully closed position before I did this. In assembles in reverse order.

You say you didn't even shoot the gun, then you say the shroud doesn't work very well?

Got to shoot the Huben today, the wind was from the right 8-12 mph, so not to windy. I tried 2 new pellets. JSB EXACT Jumbo Beast 33,9 gr and JSB Heavy Ultra Shock 25,4 gr.
The Jumbo Beast still would spiral when shot at power above 900 fps. The Ultra Shock was a surprise! It was stable and produced some good groups at 1050 fps.

With the wind blowing and shooting at 75 yards, I could get 1.5" groups with the Ultra Shock. I never did see it spiral.
At the 75 yard target the pellet expended a bunch of energy and was nicely mushroomed. If the weather lets me, I will take off my new 4X scope and remount my big heavy scope so I can see, and try to get better groups. With over 8000 plus rounds through the Huben, I am starting to get a small amount of blow-by at the breech, I can feel it on my cheek. This gun has fired a huge amount of lead in the last year. Looks like I will get to take it apart if it gets to bad. will it make 10000 rounds? I do not know. Have not replaced anything on the gun yet, and only cleaned it a couple of times.

This is a 19 round rapid fire group at 50 yards off a standard soft bag 4X scope.

5 round group at 75 yards off soft bag and 4X scope some wind.

Recovered JSB Ultra Shock pellets from the 75 yard target.

Ouch. No offense intended, but posting pics of 4moa groups is not making me feel better about waiting this long for a K1. :)

I do wonder if mrodair's claim of having huben rebarrel their K1s has any truth to it, and whether topgun-airgun is getting the same ones, and how they compare to yours. So many questions...

"kris"Parrots, can we see your pictures please
Sure

M0par,I can shoot sub MOA groups if shooting 3-5 rounds @ 50 yards(and a prayer). But, that was a full 19 round group off a bag with no pause. Not many other semi auto air guns are available so was showing the fun part of the gun. I did not mean to suggest anything other than that.

I am doing my best to show what this gun can do, both good and bad. It is a heavy hitter with lots of power and I am getting better with finding ammo that will shoot in it.
I can tell you that Huben has NOT changed the barrel, and the LW barrel that is mine is the same that is in the production models shipping now. If they tell you otherwise I would be suspect. If you want sub MOA then I can tell you this is NOT the gun for you! There are many guns out there that can shoot that good, and will cost less. It is not what I was looking for.

Parrots, I know that you have some real nice guns, I am in agreement that the Huben falls short in many areas if compared to the guns you have. I think I posted in the beginning that the fit and finish is not like my FX. But, my FX falls short in the power area and easy semi auto operation. Again it is all choices, after seeing your guns I totally agree with you. Your stock is not as nice as mine. The injected pot-metal parts are the same.

The K1 is the most fun semi auto airgun that I could Find!! For better or worse Im stuck with it! In reality I like it and would not trade it. It all comes down to choices. Is not a sub MOA gun but.. Im old, half blind, and shakey, so Im not a great sub MOA shooter! But, I can throw a bunch of high energy lead at whatever Im shooting at!

"wlbryce"Parrots, Dry firing the gun is not the same with the K1 as other airguns. I have found the gun is as quiet as my FX Monsoon. Real backyard friendly and quiet.
The way the valve works the air flow is totally different from a gun with a hammer and air valve.
You really think so? Just to see this I unpacked again and fired few pellets through it and I can confirm the shroud is not very effective at all.

Maybe you have a different shroud like the stock

That could be, I can see baffles in the tube, but you cant take it apart. I will see if I can count the baffles to see how many. but I seem to remember that is was 8 or 9.
I have no issues with the sound of the gun at all. My K1 sample is extremely quiet. You have me wondering on what was changed from the samples to the production guns?
I was told direct that the barrel and action is the same with the production gun and the samples.
