Huben .22 Fist Impressions & Numbers

I know there are some other threads about the K-1 on our forum. I think the more info. the better in terms of others who may be thinking about getting one. So, this is offered for those folks.

I received my Huben K-1 from Kelly at Krazcool Airguns a couple of weeks ago. Kelly was great to work with and communicated timely, as well as kindly answering a ton of questions that I had. Shipping was free and two day. Was shipped double boxed and in cut out foam. Very well protected.

First impression of fit and finish is very good to excellent. There's nothing I've seen or felt (moving parts) that would lead me to say the fit and finish are any less than say, FX.

There are u-tubes (AOA has a good video) that speak to how this semi-auto works, so I won't go into that. What I will say about the semi-auto is that it works flawlessly. I've shot pellets and slugs (about 500 rounds) and there hasn't been one cycling problem. The only time it didn't cycle after a shot is when I had the reg. set too low (about 105 bar) and the valve spring too tight. I believe this didn't allow enough air flow for the magazine to cycle. Just bumped up the reg. pressure to about 115 and it took care of that.

Tuning the rifle is completely simple and intuitive using an Allen key to turn the reg. pressure up and down and the valve spring tension wheel for more fine tune power adjustments. Speaking of power adjustment, this rifle can go from 20fpe to over 75fpe! A table with the different projectiles I've shoot with fps, fpe, reg. pressure and shots per 310 bar fill is below.

I haven't stretched things out for accuracy testing yet. Just indoors at 20 yards. The 28.5 slugs from Varmint Knockers and the JSB redesigned monsters look to have the best potential.

I'm waiting till I get the optics I want (just threw on a cheap Hawke 3-9 x40 for now). I'm getting a Burris reflex sight for the top and a laser/light for the front bottom. I bought a small Caldwell picatinny rail that attaches to a sling stud. There is a pre-drilled hole on the front (and back) for the sling stud. I'll post a picture once it's tricked out!

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about this rifle. BTW, I like it A LOT. It's really in a class by itself.

Congrats on your new K1. My also shoot Dale’s 28.5 gr slugs very well from 980 and upto 1040 fps. My longest shots was at 212 yards, shooting about 1030fps with very good grouping. Check out this short video shooting around 1000 fps.

Is the Valve number the "valve spring" you talked about? Is it truly the valve spring and not the hammer spring?

Is 310 bar the max fill? Usually it is 300 bar. Do you have a 310 bar compressor?

195 bar is really high but then 75 fpe is serious power for a .22. It is nice to see it can handle longer slugs.

yes they can be filled to 5000 psi if you have the means to do so. Most don't. I have a Hatsan Lightning compressor I use to fill my 88cf bottle to 4500 and then fill my gun. After cool down I usually can fill my gun to 4300 but generally only fill to 3500 or so.

looking at his chart above I think he is talking about the power wheel clicks maybe? As it and the reg settings are really all you adjust. I have mine set at 130 bar but haven't counted the clicks or turns , per se. I just set it where I get the best accuracy, then I check my speed. Usually its in the low to mid 900 fps range with whatever pellet I'm shooting at the time.

What I do is start out the reg at 110 bar and shoot groups at distance at the different settings on the power wheel, generally from about 870 to 950 fps. Then I turn reg up to 120 and repeat, 130 etc. The reason is is that I was having trouble with pellets spiraling at the lower reg pressure. That is until I hit 130 bar on reg and everything started to shoot better and groups really tightend up. My buddies gun likes his set at 100 or 105 bar. Mine won't operate that low. I tried Gregors method of tuning for pellets but it didn't work for me.

These guns can be finicky with ammo as a lot of guns are but they always work. No malfunctions to speak of except self induced ones by shooting too low.

as a side note mine is a 2018 and the OP has a 2020 model which I believe has a different barrel.

I have a slight problem, with mine creeping, if left for a week or so. I like to keep it loaded, ready to go, but the first shot is usually like a 22 mag rim fire. I have a new Huma reg for it, but will then loose the ability to adjust externally. I think my stock reg will settle in after a few more cycles. I also like my LCS SK19 too. Very, almost identical design/operating principal. The SK19 has NO creep.

Randy, this model has a .223 barrel. I'm not sure if it's chocked or not. I'll have to ask Kelly. Shoots slugs as well as pellets well.

Yeah, if I set my reg too low (110 or below) the magazine doesn't cycle. This thing is a blast. I was hitting a 6" gong 100 yards across my pond today with a 3-9 scope with no mid dots. I know that's not much to write home about, but it was the seeming ease with which the gun did it.

One thing I don't like. It's the pressure gauge up on the front of the air tube. I'll never get used to looking down the end of a barrel. And, BTW, you need to have your wits about you with this rifle. You can't take the mag out, and so you need to be extra, extra careful that you put the rifle on safe after your last shot.

The fill probe is a bit finicky, but it works fine.

The trigger is not a two stage match trigger. It has one stage and it's a bit crunchy leading up to the break, but the break is clean and predictable.

John, for sure I'm bringing it to the first match!
