How to attract a coyote to a clean shooting area in front yard?

Any input or ideas in how to attract a coyote to a specific area in my yard. I live on 6 acres and we have several coyotes. You will hear them every night and occasionally see them just before dusk.

Very early evening today, a female came up the hill, stopped for a while, walked about 100 yards away from the house and then came back.

Also, how dangerous are coyotes around humans? My kids were playing outside in that area not more than 20 minutes before we saw him.

My only air rifle at the moment is a .22 wildcat. Tomorrow my .25 Vulcan gets delivered! He stopped and stood staring at the house right at 40 yards but I did not want to attempt a shot with a .22.

Disagree with previous poster. Educate them with whatever you have to hand so they have the proper fear of humans. An elderly man was walking with a toddler in a park in bloomfield Colorado and stopped to talk with another man. The toddler wandered a ways off and the men noticed a coyote moving in on the kid in stalk mode. Of course they chased it off but did report it to animal control. Normally animal control has no control policy on coyotes up there but with two adult witnesses to the incident, animal control came in and took out the whole pack. My brother told me about that a while back. I live in the middle of town and we had coyotes recently hanging around our neighborhood until I started shooting them. They are educated now and don't sit in people's front yard licking themselves after eating the neighbors cat. Believe what you want but I'd be shooting if it'd be me. Normally they are not an problem for humans, but I would not give them the opportunity to make my kid an exception to that accepted consensus. You want them to run when they see you, not hanging around studying the menu options without concern for their own safety.

Typically they won't mess with a human larger than a small child unless they're really, really hungry. They are problematic if you have small animals or breed cattle though.

There are multiple ways to attract them other than a gut pile. Calls are probably the easiest and can be paired with a decoy. They're also prone to being attracted to things such as a female dog in heat. You could probably try to condition them with dog food or something as well, but you might wind up with more pests in your yard than is pleasant.

And at 40 yards I would have probably shot that coyote with a heavy .22 pellet if I'd had the chance. But around here, we really do not like coyotes.

I really don't know about coyotes but if you feel your kids are in danger Id shoot the poop out of them, if you have larger power burners, a shotgun, .223 even a .22, a deer rifle, let them have it.. but like one guy said if you attract them to your yard then they will be attracted to your yard where your kids play and you might end up with a bigger problem... try baiting them away from your house if you have fields or something
