How many of you tank/compressor owners are still hanging on to your hand pump?

I have an AV compressor but I am keeping my Hill. It is nice to have a back-up plus I would get so little for the Hill if I did sell.

MP44, along with all the reasons of “back up”, this comment of yours kind of hit the nail on the head. Just like anything pricey that we buy in this hobby, we’ll never get back it’s true value if we sell. I paid over $200 for the pump with the filter kit, extra desiccant packets, and rebuild kit. With the added length of micro bore hose and Air Venturi fittings I’m probably close to $350 invested in a hand pump(sure wish at the time of PCP entry I knew of the Amazon/eBay 4 stage hand pumps that everyone now is raving about that cost around $60). But in the eyes of the buyer, it’s worth maybe $150. I’m starting to think this hobby is far worse than the depreciation you get when “you drive the new car off the lot”. Yeah, heck, I’m keeping it. Done deal.

Thanks for all the advice, folks. It was also good to see everyone’s reasonings, as sometimes I doubt my own. Now I know better to just keep it.

Have a compressor now, but not getting rid of my Hill. Compressors can & do need maintenance, require repair, or die eventually. If I had easy access to tank filling, then keeping the hand pump might be overkill. But it's about an hour each way to the nearest "4500 psi" fill station, costs $18 per fill, & the tank usually ends up at ~4100-4200psi even if I leave it there overnight & have it topped off. The next closest place is over 2 hours away.

I recently got a kid I met into PCP’s by showing him and letting him shoot my PRod. He worked hard, saved up his miney, and bought the woods walker PRod, along with pellets and an overseas hand pump for like $50. This was like two months ago. He recently texted me and he’s already got plans to ask his parents to get him a compressor for Xmas. Having no tank, I told him to focus on the hatsan Spark as all he’ll be filling up is that pistol. It just cracked me up cause he didn’t know any better, and he was shooting that pistol all the way to empty, and he said pumping sucks, lol.

I schooled him on not letting the gun get below 2000 psi before pumping. He’s dead set on a compressor.

Though greatly tempted I did not buy the original ( yellow ) Hill pump but the original FX was better and I relied on it for several years. My most air conserving rifle was the career 707 II .25 set on high. Did a ton of shooting and never thought a thing of it, glad to be free of the tank! 1st pump lasted 4+ years w/out issue and heavy daily use.

Several years ago I had access to all the air a person could use but there were these new sub $100.00 hand pumps out and I'd given mine away with a sale so I purchased one just to check out and

to show others just how easy it was to use one. Almost instantly I met a new airgunner who purchased a couple of air arms at first sight. Naturally he moved to scba as soon as $ allowed but having a "loaner" - pump- around helped get him DEEP into airguns and " it was good exercise " .

I need to sell a could low end pre-charged rifles and plan on purchasing a $40 hand pump ( and the yellow one was $250 in 2000 why?) as an option to whomever off craiglsit/other buy one.

I have the altros booster and a 30min scba but will always have a working hand pump around.

Y'all storing your pumps do drip some thin silicone oil through it before long term storage.
