How many of you shoot springers and PCPs?

I have a decent collection of air arms for plinking, formal 10 meter target, Field target and hunting (mostly pest control) so I can choose from springers, pumpers, SSP or PCPs. What I pick-up depends on my mood and what I am doing. I have to admit that I have been wooed by the dark side and my HW100 PCP is getting 90% of my attention – it seems to handle all the duties quite nicely.

Have had plenty of brands and models of both over the years, some of the best springers such as Pro Sport, HW97K and others were great for their time, but are just too heavy for me after so many years of shooting lighter weight co2 guns and PCPs. 10 to 12 lbs is just too much for a day in the field. I have just recently purchased a Hatsan Striker Alpha in .177 and a Stoeger X20S in .22 and like them both after modding the triggers properly. The Alpha is a lightweight "junior gun" but the barrel and lock up parts are from the Big springer parts dept. at Hatsan. It has a huge wedge in the breech lock up and has counter bored retainer screws in the main hinge bolt heads! Yes, hinge bolts, not pins and washers. Amazing on such a low power and mild gun. The Stoeger is the Suppressor model and is impressive also. Adding a small bronze bearing to the trigger works and reducing some spring tension makes it a smooth shooter.

Stll.. I like the PCPs and co2 guns for ease of shooting but, the springers give me more of a sense of satisfaction if you can master the hold and recoil.

Shot a RWS 34 in .22 for 15 years then started watching Teds videos and got a Gen 1 Marauder in .25 about two years ago. The springer sat neglected until about a week ago. I am going to scope it and am thinking about a vortex piston seal and spring kit. I am starting to itch for another PCP. I am going to try to hold out for a Benji rip off of the Bobcat or Wildcat. I might get a 22 Disco to tinker with.......

I shoot both, but my pcp jones is satisfied with 22XX hpa conversions, and a tricked out P-Rod.

Been occupying my spare airgun time on a bottle build.

Got her shooting pretty good, in the high 800's for gobs of shots.

And I do love my springers, need to show them some love too -

I started off with a couple of break barrel springers, but now I just shoot PCPs. After I slept with the pic star that plain Jane just don't turn me on anymore. :)

Some people like easy to hit things....others like something that you have to work at.

Generally it is more rewarding to do something that takes some skill....but then again not everyone has the time to get good, or has the skill.....so off they go to the pic star.

Sound like you are throwing a little shade. Did you notice that I started this thread in 2015? I resurrected it to show that I have gone full circle and have many high-end springs guns. I always take a springer out to shoot when I shoot my PCPs and suppressed rimfires now.

Didn’t even look at the original post date. This is an old thread!

I’m off work early today. I’m hoping to take some time to shoot. What to shoot??? I just cut up some scrap wood into little blocks and started shooting those with low powered pellet guns. Those are kinda fun to shoot. I also made some small targets out of air dry clay. I haven’t shot any of those yet. They should be fun. It a beautiful day out so maybe I’ll set up a nice little range and get the boys out there for some airgun sniping!!! It will be a mix of PCP, spring and SSP power.

I've gone full circle as well. Owned maybe 7-8 springers and they don't turn me on anymore. I get some enjoyment with the only springer I have left, a CZ that is maybe 6ftlbs and actually decently accurate. Maybe I'll get a FWB300s again some day???

It'd be cool if an opposing gas ram system came out in the future?!

Since I can't afford a Wiscomb, I'll be buying PCP's.
