How many FT shooters, would like worlds in the USA?

Nation,

The WFTF World Championships are slated to be held in the USA in 2021. The AAFTA Board of Governors is looking into venues that would be located in an appropriate location for logistics (near international airports, large selection of hotels and accommodations, support personnel, catering facilities and options). As that time draws closer, watch this forum for developments and news for the possibility of the World Championships being here in 2021.

AirNGasman, if the World Championships were to be held here, we would not be able to introduce Pistol Field Target to the rest of the countries, as you suggested. The governing body of the WFTF does not allow what they call "side shoots" to be incorporated into world Championship play, and, there is a specific rule for that purpose. If the US wanted to introduce Pistol Field Target to individuals from other countries, we would have to have some kind of an organized shoot several days before the actual start of the first day of the World Championships, but not affiliated with the World Championships. Another thought would to have a test range of 3 or 4 lanes, that one could try it, and be enlightened for what Pistol Field Target is. This could be incorporated with the various vendor and sponsors booths.

Well, this has been talked about for some time and there does not appear to be much going on right now. Having the worlds comes with lots of concerns including how to handle almost 500 shooters and manage a venue and the match. That alone is a really big deal! Also, the most popular division in AAFTA matches is Hunter. The worlds would have to be WFTF only and that is even different than our AAFTA WFTF division with different rules. So all that means is that less than half of our shooters here are even interested in WFTF of any kind so how much interest is there here anyway? I wish I had answers to the concerns but I admit I do not. Hosting the Worlds sounds nice but it is a way bigger deal than most of us realize.

Dan,

thanks for your comments

The reality is, if it comes to the US, it will be world rules. There would be no hunter class and no pistol class. That’s not what they do at worlds.

I’m sure the goal would be to attract shooters from all over the world. To do that, you have to play by their rules.

I personally would not mind shooting 12 foot pound class, and would start practicing now for the opportunity to shoot in a world class event, with world-class shooters. Obviously, it’s not for everyone.

As I said in my original post, there is no way that I’m never going to get on a plane and go overseas to Shoot in a Field Target tournament. It might as well be held on the moon, as far as my odds of being able to go

I know there are a number of top American shooters who go to worlds almost every year. I get to shoot with 5 of them quite often at the home range in Minnesota.

I think a lot of the European shooters would love to come to the USA to shoot in a Field Target match. Yes, it would be a lot of work. But there are facilities all over the nation that can host such an event, and do so every year throughout the year.

I hope we pull it off in 2021.

I would do my best to make it wherever it is located. I currently shoot open class, but would definitely be happy to shoot WFTF. I've done that some lately and it's not so bad!!

I would also be open to not shooting and just volunteering for the event. I imagine lots of folks would be needed.

One thought about the fact that the majority of shooters are Hunter Class shooters not being interested. I think that may be true, and there's a way when the best competitors of any sport get together to compete, it lifts the sport up. So, even though a particular Hunter Class shooter may choose not to participate in the event, Field Target shooting as a whole will benefit in this country, and so that particular person will benefit indirectly from the fact that the competition was held here.

I say bring it on!

How about holding it in winter..........somewhere warm..... like Florida.

Likely to draw a lot of shooters and their families from Europe. Orlando area so the kids can do Disney. Plenty of hotels, airlines, etc located there.

I'm in if I can, no matter where in the USA it is held. Like most US FT guys, I won't be shooting the World's anytime soon. I would love to compete just once against the Euro WFTF guys and gals. I just need to lose the harness and I'm getting better at that.

It's a bit late to be offering new locations. That was being hashed out this past year. As for time of year August it has to he. Most of Europe shuts down for Summer Holiday at that time of year. Ditch the harnesses/buckets and get busy with the Yoga. Also you may want to think about shooting WFTF next season as getting a spot at worlds is determined by performance in previous worlds, Nationals and the GP series. There are a finite number of places and though we get double the number of entrants as the hosting country they will go quick.

I will definitely attend. If the venue is in the North East, I will help setup before the match and take down the course and clean up afterwards. If not, I will just be another contestant.

I am guessing the attendance will not be anywhere close to 500 shooters. Maybe under 300 at best.

Many hunter class shooters will not shoot this event. Open shooters need to lower the power level under 12 FPE and loose the straps.

When I describe pistol field target to Europeans, they laugh and say that's not a pistol and don't shoot it like a pistol. I agree with them.

As for Hunter Class, they have their own hunter field target competition completely separate from WFTF rules. HFT has their own World HFT event every two years I think.

I would make the attempt to go.

I have something I could use in my tool box.

But need to know where as soon as possible.... to start saving Aluminum cans and Poly Bottles " WORLD FUND"

OH, I am told CASA held the first International Competition (AKA "Worlds" USA vs England) in California 198??

I believe that there are 40+ countries now

Desertplikr,

When the world's were held here, we were allowed to use 20 ft Lb guns, but they were in their own class. Other countries in Europe (mostly) have a 12 ft lb. limit, which is why WFTF Organization, uses that as a standard. When the world's were held here in the USA, 20 ft. Lb guns had there own (Open) class. We did have a team made up of 12 ft lb competitors. The 20 ft lb. competitors were not directly in competition with and against the WFTF 12 ft.lb shooters.

In 2007 Roz hosted Worlds at his place in Tennessee. All guns 20 and 12 ft lbs competed together. PaulCray won it, Warren Williamson was 2nd, I was 3rd, Andy Caplin from England was 5th shooting 12 ft lbs.

in New Zealand, many years later, they had an open class to 26 ft lbs. it did not go well. Targets had been adjusted to not fall from face hits from the high power guns, but failed to fall for the 12 lb guns. They had to cancel day one and fix all the targets. So day two we shot 100 shots. That’s 50 lanes.

After NZ the rules were amended so only 12 ft lbs could shoot. No side shoots allowed.
