How many EVOL .22 owners here?

Great guns! You won't be disappointed. When mine came it was setup to shoot the RD Monsters at 880fps. It did shoot them incredibly well. I didn't expect the gun to come shooting that hot and ended up detuning it to shoot the 16gr at 880 or 900fps can't remember off the top of my head. Just a laser beam at that setting. 18gr for some reason weren't great. Well not like the other 2. Tom noted that too when I got it from him. But I found other guns I owned preferred the same and not the 18gr either so I put it to the pellets rather than the gun. Really if you are going to be shooting to 100yds I'd likely go with the RDs and just shoot it. Also while tuned at 30fpe the new mod they come with does great but at 44fpe was alittle on the loud side. Might want a different moderator maybe depending on your noise level needs.

When you have time type “Evol” in AGN elasticsearch searching relevant titles in order to sift through the rest of the posts. There aren’t too many Evol users creating posts on here. Took about 15 mins to read and post these. Good luck.

Thank you. Yes, I did do a search on EVOL before I posed my question. You are correct about not too many users. I do have some RD Monsters on the way with the gun, but will also consider Dillon's advise, too.

I didn't ask, my bad. But I guess being that the gun can achieve 40 fps with a 15" barrel, I assumed that it could handle the JSB RD's well.

I'm coming off owning a couple .25's. I really like that calibre for the pesting that I do on my property. And I do have previous experience with the RD's on a .22 Cricket. Best fps I could muster on that gun was under 800 fps, which gave me pretty loopy trajectories at various distances.

And the fact that I can adjust the reg to shoot the 15.89 well, makes for a pretty versatile rifle.

And as far as me being a trailblazer, well, I leave that to Dana!

@Mr-H Consider calling them this morning to ask about pellet recommendations. That way if you aren’t already stocked up on .22 ammo, you can order some and they can ship the recommended pellets with your gun. Hopefully you won’t have to pay additional shipping charges and you can post what they recommend.

I suspect that Dana has sold more than a few Evols with his work. He’s put in some serious time and work with his. At this point I think just about anyone with accurate information is also helping to blaze the trail for the brand, at least on this forum. Please keep us posted with new information and discoveries.

I favor the .25 for small to medium sized game and target shooting. I’ve recently been looking at .22s as well, so your post caught my eye. I figure they’re cheaper to shoot and are capable of taking small game just the same. Since reading posts and seeing videos and pics of what guys are doing with slugs in .22, I really became interested. @Motorhead modified a .22 NSA HP and posted pics of the expansion he got shooting 1 gal water jugs and I was thoroughly impressed. I think you selected a good gun if you opt to go the slug route.

Darrin from AoA did say that even though the gun wasn't designed to shoot slugs, it will shoot them. I enjoy shooting a .22 Tikka T1x, too, so between the EVOL and the Tikka, I will hopefully have some fun this next spring and summer.

And I will be posting impressions of the EVOL after I get a couple tins through the gun. I won't be throwing it off a cliff or drag it behind my four wheeler:)

I'm not sure which is the 15" version but I have an early Standard. It came tuned for the MRDs at 900 and shoots those quite well. I've detuned it a couple of times for the 18.1s but went back to the MRDs as the variation in accuracy from batch to batch was horrible with 18.1s . A side note is that when I got it, Tom was here testing other stuff and we shot 18.1s at over 1000 fps that were phenomenal... even decent at 150 yds in the light wind that day. Could be batch related... I don't know. He brought another Standard and his Mini up this last Monday. It is mainly intended for 18.1s but should be good if tuned down for the 15.89s. We did try some Zan's and NSAs in both rifles in a couple of different weights but only the 20.2 NSA were good and they were as good as MRDs in 0.217 size.

Congratulations on your rifle purchase 👍👊. Very nice rifles !

Couple questions for you .22 EVOL owners. I called AoA yesterday with some general questions about a couple products, and ended up buying an 15" .22 EVOL yesterday. Whats the consensus on "best" pellet for that platform, under 100 yds? How do the Redesigned Monsters work? Any tips for a first time owner? Thanks.

Where did you find a 15" .22 EVOL? AoA lists the Mini with a 10.5" and the HPS with a 21".

Well, as luck would have it, when I called, I was initially interested in the .25. But was told that was AAAs least popular model, so apparently had been discontinued. Then Darren. told me about the .22 with the 15" barrel that they just got in. If this gun can get about 40 fpe, then I'm a happy camper.

The gun I bought is the equivalent to the .30 Magnon, but in .22. It had arrived the day before I called, and was never listed on AoAs webpage.

I think (hope) yesterday I was at the right place at the right time.

Mr.H - that's pretty cool. Your timing was excellent.

I still waiting on my .357 Slayer ordered on 3/3/20 - almost 2 years so getting antsy.

Two years?? That's worse than waiting for a can to clear Alphabet org paperwork. Sorry to hear that. How does AAA respond when you ask how much longer?

I've tried to be patient and not make too much noise, but I've reached out today so we'll see where things are. I recall Dana mentioning in a post last fall that Tom had 3 Slayers on his bench he was finishing up. Hoping one of those was/is mine.

@Mr-H It kinda sucks, but I guess that just means you’re one of the .22 Evol trailblazers here. I also wanted to know, did you ask AOA which pellets pair well with the gun out of the box? If so, which did they recommend?

I did have a chance to speak with AoA this afternoon. Their #1 pellet choice for the 15" .22 is the JSB RD's, #2 is the 18.13 gr. But as they say, "your results may vary"

I've been enjoying my Evol Mini 22. It's very efficient for how small the air cylinder is. I'm trying to recall when AoA picked up AAA's line of airguns if they ever offered the Standard 22 version with the 15" barrel or if it was only available from Tom through his website. I think for an all around gun, the Standard version fits the bill. I wouldn't mind picking up one for myself.

I bought Dairyboy's EVOL 22 that is a 15 inch barrel. It is a sweet shooter. It loves the 15.89 JSB Jumbos. I like your taste in airguns and rimfire. I have a T1X also and they are great guns. I killed a few prairie dogs with my EVOL 22 this summer in New Mexico. I had not planned on hunting p-dogs there but it did better than expected. Had I known, I would have brought the EVOL 30!

The really nice thing about the tune Dairyboy performed is it gets around 90+ shots on a charge. I like my FX Maverick as well but have had several failures with it that are easy to resolve but sometimes cut my day short. I have never had a problem with the EVOL 22. It is so easy to shoot tiny groups with as well. I think you will love it!
