How is this Bull...

So this past Friday a member (I won't mention names) posted in the classified a wildcat .25 for sale, I pm'd him and he sent me his paypal information, sent the money to him. This all took place in a matter of 1/2 hour. 4 days later I get a notice in my paypal account that there is a refund for the same amount I paid to this member. I tried contacting the member but no response. I understand that the seller has the right to sell to whom they chose to but I was trying to help another member out in buying his gun, I did not low ball him I paid him what he was asking, I'm irritated for the fact of it was Veteran's weekend and gun sites had sales and I could have bought the gun from them, now 5 days later the sales are over and I don't have a gun. This is the kicker the gun was not for me, it was for my 10 year old son's birthday coming up and the end of the month. I just wished this person had the common courtesy to let me know he was not going to sell it to me and I could have bought it from AOA, AGD, UAG during the Veteran's day sale. I have sold things on this site and during my sale I was offered more money for the item but I already told the other person I would sell it to them, I did not refund the buyer and sell it to the higher buyer, that's not cool.

That sucks for sure. But don't let a bad experience prevent you from doing it again. Most folks here are stand-up and most here have had good experiences buying from each other.

On the bright-side, Thanks-Giving is around the corner and you can expect more Black Friday deals coming up soon.

I know the anguish... if the gun had been for yourself, it probably hurt a lot less, but given it was for your 10 year old son...

Common curtesy goes a long way and the seller should of let you know he was backing out of the deal so you could of went another route and what makes it worse is that it was a gift for your son and I’m sure you let the seller know that when you made the deal. Just don’t let this one bad experience sour you out on doing other deals in the future, 99% of the folks here are straight shooters.

He should have contacted you, but it could be something that disqualified the gun. Maybe when he did the pre-mail check he noticed something was wrong with the gun that he didn't include in his communication. I am aware of an incident where someone I know had made a sale, but got into an accident before he could mail it. He instructed his wife to refund the money to the buyer because he had bigger things to worry about than packing and shipping a gun.

Bummers man, I really feel for you. Today I really feel the need to post this after reading your post here. I mostly read and don't log in now days.

I had at least 3 incidents I think that are even worst than yours where in one case, after a lengthly phone conversation, a seller had agreed to sell me a gun that he listed on the classifieds for a really super incredible price (I agreed to pay the posted asking price plus actual shipping) didn't lowball nor offer a lower price as many typically do and asked him to calculate the shipping and insurance to my zipcode and 2 days later I get an email from him telling me that he decided to raise the selling price of the gun by 50% since he had been bombarded with a ton of replies from other very interested people wanting to buy it and since I was the first responder to say I will take it replying to his ad and following through by making a phone call to him and then to find out 2 days later he emails me (not calling me on the phone to discuss it) to let him know if I want to proceed any further by paying his NEW higher selling price and add the shipping he had already calculated for my zipcode and if not no problem he has a lot of others willing to pay his higher selling price right now but being courteous he is giving me first opportunity to buy it. NO THANKS. I have the guy's full name if you PM me I can tell you his name, phone number and email too.

Next instance was where I had offered to buy a used high end scope at a make a reasonable offer price since he sold the gun originally as a package and would have gotten $400 more with the scope included so knowing that, I offered $600 which was $200 more than what he would have gotten had the buyer bought the gun and scope together so I made that more than reasonable offer which was about 30% less than the cost of a new one and he agreed to sell it to me since I was first to reply and was totally fine with the $600 price I offered and was going to calculate shipping to get me the total I needed to pay then the next day he appologized that he got a better offer and he had already sold it to someone else. Found out after the fact coincidentally ran into the other buyer who told me who he bought it from and for how much $50 more than what I offered and he had absolutely no idea that the seller accepted my $600 offer nor was told he was not the first person to reply so it wasn't his ( other buyer's) fault. I have that guy's name, phone number and email too.

Third instance the seller wanted US Postal Money Order for a pistol he listed for a super good deal price and we spoke over the phone and figured shipping Flat Rate box price as we talked and I sent the money order for the amount he told me to send that day and then 2 days later after it was 2 days in the mail in transit with a tracking on the envelope showing it was soon to be delivered (but not yet delivered), he texts me (not giving me a phone call) saying he just received payment from someone else who sent money order for more than the amount he was asking for and I had the option to match or beat that price which was by right "the right thing to do". I did not get my money order sent back.

I can't disclose this person's info until I get this matter resolved by the feds and the US Postal Service and local authorities both mine and his side. We shall see how protected against fraud the US Postal Money Order really is. I copied all documentation including ad posting and emails and texts and have already forwarded everything to the proper authorities and channels.

There is another recent incident I read about someone hacking an ad here on AGN For a 177 BSA R10 and replied to the alleged scammer and managed to get a photo copy of his driver's licence in CA. as well as his new current physical address in another state.

There really are more people like this in the world and society today more than you think whether you like it or not or choose to believe it or not.

Gotta kinda look on the other side, other than being a little inconvenienced he is out nothing. Just sold a airgun and had no less than 5 I'll take it and got no money. He may have said yes to several and got too many pays and took first money. He should respond however.

Yes I hear what you are saying but I was the first to respond and sent the money about 20 minutes later, no haggling on price, just sent the money.

I would not have posted this if he just let me know what happened, I'm not an A hole I understand $hit happens. I live in God's country (Hawaii) if you been to Hawaii island you'll understand, no time to be mad.

Aloha

Bummers man! Sorry to hear that! At the end of the day IMHO it is because of neglecting to state FREE shipping to CONUS that is, unless you offered to pay extra for shipping to Hawaii. My best guesses which are based on logic the ad posting price of $1200.00 included free shipping and the fact that there was NO ATTEMPTED contact from the seller to you with any explanation before and after the refund is that either he wanted to get more money in his pocket by selling it locally so he doesn't to eat the extra shipping by air freight all the way to HAWAII which typically would be really expensive compared to shipping UPS GROUND within CONUS and best yet if someone drove to his house to pick it up for that selling price then its all about GREED in this case... OR... a buddy of his wanted to buy it after agreeing to sell it to you and he ended up selling to his bud instead for the same price you paid...OR!!! he got a better offer after you sent payment to him and chose to keep that higher payment instead for more money in his pocket than what you pre paid him which would make him an awfully TERRIBLE HUMAN BEING if that is the case...OR (GOD FORBID) prejudice against Hawaiians and I can't even come remotely close to commenting if that is the case.

Something similar to your story happened to me too. The seller won't ever want to reply to you because he knows he did you wrong and fully knows you rightfully would be really PISSED!!!

In any event, there is such a thing called CARMA which I really believe that CARMA balances everyones life in general.

Action-reaction sort of thing if you catch my drift...

I really think the seller knows what he did was absolutely wrong so chances are that he doesn't ever intend to contact you nor respond to your negative feedback that you already left for him.

There are people out there with absolutely no conscience at all and wouldn't even think twice about screwing over the next human being if given the opportunity to. Unfortuneately, chances are you will never know until after the fact... such as in your case...

The GOVERNMENT of this forum or Governor would more than likely state that the seller gets to choose whom he or she wants to sell the item to. Whether we agree to it or not, that would be the rules we are expected to follow. We members are only the commoners here who are allowed to roam the premises but must respect the Government rules as well as beliefs if we want to remain welcomed here.

The bottom line is the seller agreed to the buyers offer, then welched on the deal. Apparently his word is worth nothing to himself.

I've been fooling with Mopar muscle cars and hot rods for over 40 years and have only had a couple bad deals. One was made good (I was holding the aces) and the other I ate. About 15 years ago i had an all original 72 340 Duster, I had offered to sell it a few times but never really put it out to the public for sale. A man I worked with started talking about the car so I priced it to him, he agreed but said it would a month or so before he could get some money moved around to pay me. No problem I'd had the car for a long time and was in no big hurry to sell. A lot of people knew I had the car and a couple weeks after the deal was made I get a call wanting to know if the car was for sale. I told them it was sold but hadn't picked up yet. I made it very clear it was sold but they insisted on looking at it. The man showed up with his wife and once again I explained that it was sold. After they had looked it over I heard the man ask his wife if she wanted it? I knew then it was going to end with them being butt hurt, and it did. They walked up and she asked what it would take to buy it? Again I repeated it was already sold. She couldn't believe I wouldn't even price it to them. After much discussion I politely asked her how she would feel if we had made a deal and I sold it to someone else? She just turned and walked to their car and got in, her husband stood there for a few seconds and did the same. In a couple weeks my buddy at work paid me in full and our deal was done. If I had sold it to someone else I'd never been able to look him in the eye again and my word would've been worth nothing.

I have been into airguns less than two years and have already ran into more shysters in this world than my entire time in the car hobby. My experiences on this site have been great and have never had any issues with members here. In fact I bought a rifle from a gentleman here and he shipped it the day i mailed the check. The rifle arrived three days before his check did, I was really sweating it thinking something may happen while the usps had his check, it all worked out like it should.

Well sounds like you did get a bad deal on this, no doubt. However when I first read this ad I’m thinking your not the only one. Sure sounds like there was a scorned woman involved in the deal that the seller got. What did the wife get upset finally that he spent to much money on his air rifles? Then a guys worst nightmare happens, she sold them for what he told her he paid for them. Needless to say the ad didn’t put warm and fuzzy feelings in my head!! On a lighter side maybe it was an amicable split and he said you can have the Impact but there’s no way in hell your getting the Taipan Veteran😘. I’m thinking the guy who got his gun sold “so cheap I thought I had stolen it” came out a lot worse in this unfortunate deal.
