How does a rabbit get lucky in Texas???........

Was on a buddy's back porch in TX [edit] shootin' the sh+* when this rabbit popped up ~20 meters off. [Edit] I held a hold under, but was a full mildot too high and this little lucky guy just hopped off.

Edited by Ted: I removed the "controversial" bit about drinking beers because I think your video offers a good learning lesson. That other part was sure to distract from an otherwise valuable learning opportunity.

Oklahoma_Guy's video does a good job of showing how close-range targets (the rabbit appears much closer than 20m) also require HoldOver (not holdunder). Look closely and you'll see that pellet passes under the chin of the rabbit. This is exactly what you would expect.

I went over this in a video last year. I cued the video to the appropriate place (7:30).

When targeting your quarry remember that the pellet travels in an arc and that the scope is mounted above the barrel. This requires the pellet to travel upwards into the line-of-sight of the scope and because it travels in an arc it will travel downwards out of the line-of-sight of the scope. When your quarry is very near or very far away it will require Holdover. These are the actual distances and Holdover for my TX200.
18yds – 36yds Crosshair
15yds – 17yds ½ Mil DOT (Holdover)
13yds – 14yds 1 Mil Dot (Holdover)
11yds – 12yds 1 ½ Mil Dot (Holdover)
10yds ---------- 2 Mil Dot (Holdover)
09yds ---------- 2 ½ Mil Dot (Holdover)
08yds ---------- 3 Mil Dot (Holdover)
Notice how the Holdover goes up as the distance gets closer. Oklahoma Guy missed the rabbit because he did not aim high enough. He needed to use Holdover

Great discussion about my eff'ed up shot! Ted... you were right. I repaced the distance and it was about 15 meters, not 20. As gamyrick stated, I too thought (even after looking at the footage a few times before I originally posted) that the shot was over the head of the rabbit, not under the chin because of the impact dust and the downward flinch of the rabbit. Thank you for pointing that out. Looks like I should have held a 1 1/2 mildot holdover. If I had, my buddy and I could have added some BBQ rabbit to that night's dinner.
