How Do You Tell on a Alpha Filter ...

Thanks 2 many ... this is the first time I have used it but couldn't find any info on when to change it, but I ordered 2 inserts and noticed both had blue strips on the outside of the media container. I knew that with the Diablo Air Dryer System it was the changing of colors on the beads that determined when to bake the media and get the water out.

Yo, from what I have read you can open the insert and bake the beads, but they say you can only get about 80% of the drying power when you do that and I imagine that the more times you bake them that you get diminishing returns with each baking. I assume that the reason is because they utilize a molecular sieve in one part of the media container and the other part looks like charcoal. It would be a heck of a mess trying to bake the beads and then put them back into the container getting the two kinds of media mixed up. On top of that the beads need to be jam-packed in the container or high pressure air will create "channeling" within the plastic media container allowing the air to pass through without a good scrubbing to get the water out. Or at least that is my understanding of it.

Again, thanks 2many for clearing that up for me

Shalom

There are plenty of places to get a new refill for the alpha filter also. Google is your friend. No need to pay more for the same thing.

Aren't the dessicant bakeable to turn the color back to reuse over and over and over again?

The beads are insde of a sealed cartridge and cannot be taken out without destroying the cartridge.

This is a 2017 thread and this information is obsolete. It actually never worked properly because the PVC pipe didn't form a good seal and air escaped around the o-rings. It really doesn't matter since the gold filters now come with repackable cartridges instead of the cotton tampon filters they came with when this alternative home made cartridge was suggested.

Alpha filters are excellent but anyone can get the same performance spending less than 25% the cost of an Alpha by purchasing a Tuxing gold filter housing with a repackable cartridge for less than $90 from many sellers on Ebay or Aliexpress. They are shipped from U.S. resellers so no need to order them from overseas manufacturers.

I figured that was old info... There are better options out there than the alpha filter for sure. I would not buy another one but now that I have a better source for parts and cartridges I am good for now. I will probably buy a gold filter for a spare backup.
