How do you protect and travel with your air tank?

I have a 98cf air tank with a thin backpack style cover/carrier on it. It doesn't provide much protection, esp on the business end. I'd like to find something that provides reasonable protection in the back of my SUV, moving it from place to place around the house, etc. (No airline travel.) I'd prefer a soft cover, but would consider a hard case.

How about a photo of your cover/carrier?

Several months ago someone posted a photo of a prototype bag that appeared to give a lot of protection to both the tank and the valve. I haven't seen anything about it since.

Any help appreciated. I have a healthy respect for this tank and want to give this tank the protection it requires.

what i use for alot of things in the trunk of the car is an old wadded up soft car cover .. it has about the mass of a large thick comforter .. dont fold it wad it up and stuff it whever you want to place something you want protected like a rear floorboard and nestle whatever it is down in it ... but yeah i can place several guns out of the case on it, my rc cars or helicopters, throw tools on it or use it to wedge groceries so they dont spill .. works good for alot of things, they wont move and are padded good ..

I just talked to my son tonight. He has a piece of scrap 8" pvc pipe for me and is going to pick up some end caps.

I like the box. Good DIY idea. I will definitely need to add a "roll bar."

Lucky you ! those end caps are expensive , my friend gave me the pipe and bottom but I wanted a screw plug for the top but no one had them in stock so had to settle with compression one. think I paid $56 for it . I still need to get a couple of metal pipe hangers to bolt to the outside then weld two piece's of flat bar to the bottom so it doesn't roll ,then fab a handle . I also put a piece of memory foam on the bottom & one on top to cushion the tank .

I hope I didn't exaggerate. The pipe will be free, but when I say he will pickup the caps, I mean that he'll buy then at a plumbing supply at a discount.

I hope you'll post a pic of your finished product. I think I may cut some wooden "legs" (something like what Franklin Fairfield and bdzjlz make) and epoxy them to the side of the pipe to prevent it from rolling.

Great idea on the foam top and bottom.

Franklin Fairfield and bdzjlz, lookin' good. I'm going to "borrow" some of your design. Thanks.

Triggertreat, that would be a great setup next to my backyard bench. Thanks for the idea.

If you want to do the bucket, lid cutout tips:

  1. Measure the circumference of your tank with a tape.
  2. Divide the circumference by 3.14 (you now have the diameter).
  3. Divide the diameter by two (you now have the radius).
  4. Locate the center of the lid and mark off the radius (Make a circle).
  5. Cut out the circle with a blade of choice.
  6. Use a Pyramid Air pellet tin shipping cushion(s) at the bottom.
  7. Place more cushions on sides if desired to keep tank from skewing off center.
  8. Enjoy the extra storage space inside when traveling!
