How do you like your Nova Liberty?

Hello everyone,

I purchased a 22 caliber Nova Liberty with the wood stock and got off to a rough start, the first one I had leaked. I paid $278.00 from American Tactical which was 20% off the normal price by using the Hard Air magazine code. ATI customer service was pretty good with taking the leaking gun back and getting a new one that did not leak. I love to tinker and tune my airguns and the liberty was no exception. This is my third PCP rifle, I have an Air Arms S410 in 22 that is from 2004 a Benjamin Marauder gen 1 25 caliber from around 2010 and now the Liberty. The Liberty is my first regulated airgun and I had a whole new challenge learning how to tune it for power and accuracy. I never would have been successful without all the help I was given from Airgun Nation, thanks to all who help me out.

I have the Liberty shooting at almost forty foot pounds with one hole groups at thirty yards and the shot count is at fifty before falling off the regulator. I can not believe how well this gun shoots compared to my two others that cost so much more. Is this because of the new technology and regulators in todays newer airguns or what? I seem to read about FX guns everywhere I look but do not see how they can be so much better to justify the price difference. Do not get me wrong I would love to get my hands on the impact x or any of the Daystate guns if I could afford one. I would like to hear from someone who has a Liberty and also one of the new FX or daystate rifles.

Thank you,

Jim

I really like my liberty! But as you well known, its not a pull it out of the box and shoot one hole groups. It takes some tinkering. And i enjoy that part of it also. Its a good time to be getting into the pcp game. 5 years ago you wouldn't be able to find a regulated gun for under a grand. But to put it simply. Fit and finish and the quality of the machined parts that go into the gun. The barrel on the liberty has a non existent crown. Screws threaded into plastic bushings on the shroud. The holes on some belville washers in the reg were punched off center. Stock fit the action very poorly. My Daystate Huntsman was just pulled from the box and stacking pellets form the get go. Beautiful wood and a trigger that breaks like glass. Its quality you can just hold and feel. Runs like a swiss watch and has never needed a thing. My wildcat was a good one also. Do i think they should cost $1500 plus? Hell no! But as said earlier its a good time to be in the game.

My initial reaction the Liberty is it is a lot of features for a very reasonable price. It functions very well and is pretty accurate with a wide range of pellets and slugs. I go over the feature set and accuracy in my complete review video.

I have placed the Liberty in my long term testing cue and it will be revisited throughout the year and beyond to make there are no issues.

I like it enough to whoop up on it with a pretty stick.

Today's technology in air guns has advanced so far that even the bargain brands can now afford to incorporate better rifled barrels, and regulators, into the economy priced models. This was not true six or seven years ago. Eduard of Edguns set a whole new standard for the pcp competition to compete with. The fact is they couldn't...so we began to see more and more improvements as the market evolved.

PCP's just a few years ago were only for those who could afford to drop over a thousand to two thousand USD for a hobby. Wow, has that changed! It's been a long time since the economy priced Marauder came onto the scene. A LOT of improvements have taken place with that model, so the competition had to step up their game to compete. We have all benefited...and kudos to all those whose home modifications have begun to show up on today's pcp selection!

PS: RJ...WHERE did you get that stock? Is it "one off", or does someone make them for the other brands??? That's a nice piece of wood!!!

@ Hoot. Thanks! That's the factory wood. Stripped her down and was a she ended up being a little plain blonde. Birch possibly. Wet it down to raise the grain and hit it with some ebony stain. Hit it With steel wool and put poly on it.

@Blue. Looks good! Didn't lose any accuracy i can tell. Still dropping trash birds at 65yrds. Popping dandelions at 80. I did print up an air stripper and baffles for it. So the barrel is supported at the muzzle. Went ahead and printed a band also. Stock with the front sight removed looked wrong to me. Right now I've kept it at 30 fpe. May try and bump it up when my stash of JSB's run out. What pellets are you pushing to 40 fpe? Was thinking about trying to push some 25's to around 50fpe.

RJ,

I am pushing the H&N Barracuda match 21.14 at between 902-915 fps they are extremely accurate at that speed. I tried the 25's but had to sacrifice to much of the shot count and it was much louder at that level. The D.E.C. just clear cut about 5 acres of property behind my house where I was shooting so I can only shoot on weekends and have to keep the noise to a minimum from now on which really stinks.

Mine arrived today but, tornados, hail and severe thunderstorms is keeping me inside. Factory trigger is decent with a bit of creep and moderate pull weight. Came with 2 mags even thought some reviews reported 1 mag. I suspect they did not pull the first mag from the foam and see a second mag under it when posting their review. Happy with the visual and trigger inspection so far.

My 22 Liberty is not pellet picky, but does much better with well lubed pellets, and the barrel stays clean longer as it is rather tight. There is a back screw on the trigger group you need to flip over if you want to lighten the pull very much, it already broke cleanly but was a little stiff out of the box. Kinda like removing the lawyer spring on a marauder. Mine can burst paintballs all day long at 50 yards and this past weekend at the GTA fun shoot i was hitting a one inch gong at 100 yards with little effort, I have mine set to shoot three pellets well, JSB 16's, 18's and Barracuda 21's. I have upped my regulator by just under 1/4 turn so the 21 gr barracudas hit 34fpe, the 18's hit 32 and the 16's hit 30. Just watched a video from a spanish speaking country where they were shooting a 25 cal Liberty, am hoping to see ATI bring them into there inventory soon.

My Dad ordered one and leaked from day one. Tried to fix it but couldn't. The little time we did have it, it was very accurate and not pellet picky. I did notice the cheek piece was too low for us to be comfortable and get proper scope alignment. Sent it back for a refund.

I understand wanting to send it back after getting soured by a leak but I would personally give them another chance at the $239 price. It's doubtful that they will get cheaper with the trade tariff stuff that's going on.
