how do you guys feel about .20 cal

Lol ... yup.

As a foot note of what the .20 has achieved in more recent times ... In 2017 at the AAFTA Field Target Nationals a shooter in the Hunter class at just 12X scope mag achieved the HIGH MATCH SCORE besting all other classes while shooting a .20 cal PCP. This was not only notable for the hunter class being substantially UNDER scoped in X magnification being just 12x but done by a shooter sitting on a stool with shooting sticks. This was a FIRST for American Field Target that a "Hunter" class shooter took top score , with a side note it being accomplished while shooting a .20 cal air rifle.

All the normal .20 voices chiming in. I guess I will too.

Probably the best group I've ever shot, considering distance and the number of shots.

I had an old Sheridan Silver Streak in .20cal back in the late 80's. I also had a Benji 397 (.177) and 392 (.22). I use to hunt a lot of chickens back in the day (Still do lol) and the .22 Benji always got the job done. To me, .20cal is like 6.8 SPC, 300 Blackout, FN 5.7 and .357SIG. They are hard to find. The good thing about .20cal is that when all the common pellet ammo is limited and all you have is .20, you're GTG. Although it's mainly true for PB ammo in panic buys.

Well the .20 barrel is in my Talon P. Same .123 transfer port and same power wheel setting of 10. Did a quick sight in over the chrony inside. 2400 fill 875 fps with JSBs 13.73. 15 yards is my absolute longest inside and ended up with 1 ragged hole after I got it sighted in. 15 to 20 shots total and only used 500 psi or so. Can't wait till I run a shot string and see how it looks.

Stay healthy😀

When I had one rifle that I used for hunting and field target it was the obvious choice for a caliber larger than .177. At the time CPs ruled the day and both the .20 and .22 versions weighed the same at 14.3 grains. Since the .20 had the smaller diameter, it had higher sectional density, higher BC, flatter trajectory, and better penetration on game. It still has some advantages as you can see here.

Due to the relatively high BC energy retention and wind drift are quite good, and drop is not bad either. The BC was determined from my own testing of the JSB pellet shot from my .20 Daystate Harrier which was tuned for a little over 20 ft-lb of energy at the time. At the muzzle I recorded an average velocity of 835 fps, and at 50 yards obtained an average velocity of 702 fps.

Would anyone happen to know the ballistic coefficient of the .20 JSB Heavies 15.89?

Kdog, I come up with 0.042 for the GA BC of the 15.89 version based on the increase in weight alone. Since longer shapes are usually more streamlined, there may be a boost there as well. So approximately 0.044 is my best guess without testing.

FWIW .... shooting the JSB 13.7 at @ 800 fps my BC runs @ .040 to .044 pending elevation.

Here on the West coast our FT match facilities / sites ( Club & GP ) vary wildly from near sea level to near 5000 feet

Anyone know if the current Benji 20 cylindrical any good? YO!

Total GARBAGE ... having modern 5 guns in .20 cal, that pellet fails in all of them !

Thanks those cylindircals would be a waste of $$$ I really wonder why they still make those? The BC for both JSB 20s look very good at least equal if not better than the Crosman Premiers which were the gold standard in accuracy in .20. YO!

I have gone back and forth here a couple of times on the .20, may yet get me one at some point, even if just to see for myself.

Now, one (or yet another negative) that I notice is the economics of it all in some models. I recently was tempted by a good sale AoA is having on the HW30. I click on it and chose the .20 with a certain project in mind. The .20 comes in at $110 more than the .177 or .22, just for the privilege.
