How do you "clamp" a Fx Carbon Fiber Bottle ? making own vise jaws

Specially those carbon fiber Bottles, How do you clamp those when removing the valve ?

i was thinking of making a big hole like 65mm inside a wood piece, then saw it in half, then putting some rubber or leather inside, now you can clamp the bottle inside a vise.

the only concern with the carbon fiber bottles are there are not perfectly round, so there must be some soft material in between of course.

Or would a V-shaped piece be better ?

Im just preparing myself IF I have to remove the valve once in the future..

i like the idea of that "strap wrench" 👍

Plus now the wife doesn't have to bother me when she can't get the lid off one of those gallon jars of pickled eggs.

😂

For you that knows:

Does the Fx Bottles come from factory with loctite around the threads? where the valve screws in, if so, I hope its a weak loctite

I dont like the idea of heating that place

This seems like a solid idea, the only thing I would add, is some Comet to help the leather grip. The same principle as a barrel vise.

I see that you are from “Sweeee-dun.”

i have very good memories from there. I lived there for 6 months years ago. Love Swedish people.

Anyway imagine the white color pvc pipe as your carbon

I havn't done this with a bottle, but in boat building and construction we do weird stuff like this for other items. Your system would work if it is really tight, but to prevent slippage do it in the front and the back and then screw the 2x4/2x6 in opposing directions at first, so that it pulls in the back to the left and to the right in the front, and that would help with twisting. I like the idea though I would have don’t something similar.

Be careful with an impact if you are using one, as any over compression will compromise it. You could pay the $20 and have a shop do it.

Third option is you take the bottle and wrap it with leather and have it wrapped like a taco...then take piece of wood over the two taco sleeves and compress it down with screws with an impact in your placement choice onto a wood table.

you can screw to. This will effectively make a large washer and cause your leather taco to snuggle around to your bottle without the kind of risk of popping it. You still have cause of being careful, but you are far less likely to do damage to it.

Sideways taco, 🌮, compress taco sleeves with 2x4 on table, and wala

I have had the issue with other high pressure gas bottles both large and small. My solution is using a fork on a fork lift and cargo straps with ratchet tensioners. Just make as many wraps around the bottle and fork as you can and then tighten the ratchet. This works like a custom belt wrench, but you don't have to hold it. This leaves both hands to deal with the valve. This works very well, even on the largest bottles.

so many ideas, now I dont know which one to begin with 😬

I will buy a rubber oil filter wrench type of tool, that is in my hardware-store, and buy some leather and/or neoprene sheet, then I have things to make that bottle be still.

Still looking for that tool to remove the valve, not easy to find, the only place so far is best fittings, but they charge like same price for shipping as the tool, not fun

Maybe I can find it somewhere here, still looking
