So you asked how Bell Targets work? Bell targets are simple in design, they are two square steel tubes one "the bell" suspended inside the other "face plate". The "face plate" does not resonate as the mounting screw (included) prohibits this. A hit on the "face plate", or miss, produces a dull "thunk" sound. The "bell" is free hanging and a perfect strike produces a pleasant ring. Bell Targets come in 2 sizes: Small Bell Targets have "kill zones" of 3/8", 1/2", 3/4" and 1" (one on each side of the face plate) Large Bell Targets have "kill zones" of 1", 1.5", 2" and 2.5" (one on each side of the face plate)

We have excess targets at the moment and are offering one free Large Bell Target with the purchase of at lease one other Bell Target - use the coupon code "FREE" go to abctargets.com

I made pone from a used circular saw blade and a hunk of 3/4 plywood.

bolted the blade to the wood, used a stand off so its not contacting the plywood. located and drilled 3 holes (3/4, 1/2, 3/8)

the wood wont last long, but it works well enough to get a sense of what the bell target buzz is about.

I dont understand why this sport hasnt grabbed America by the nose.....

I purchased one of these last year but was disappointed. I was not really able to distinguish the difference from hitting the inside hanging "bell" from the exterior metal box.

I made sure that the exterior was solidly mounted to a tree, and that the bell was hanging freely centered inside the box. I even tried using some twine to hang the bell to assure that the bell was floating freely inside. Still couldn't tell trying all calibers.

I now just use the outside box as a Target at 75yrds.

YMMV

Hi Scott

Sorry you couldn’t get it to work for you.

There is only one moving part and it should be fairly simple to figure out what’s going on.

Either the “face plate” is resonating and it shouldn’t be, or the “bell” is not resonating and it should be.

Make sure the “face plate” is tightly mounted, the mounting screw (supplied) should compress the “face plate” slightly prohibiting it from resonating. If it is not mounted or screwed down tightly it may move slightly. It works best when screwed into a tree, wooden post or board.

The “bell” or internal portion of the target should be free hanging, sometimes if the “face plate” isn’t vertical and the “bell” can lean against the inside of the “face plate” and is does not resonate.

Call me if I can help you set it up, I can send you another one if necessary

Mike

Mine is set up exactly as directed. I solidly mounted it to a tree. I needed a longer screw than the one that comes with it for a solid mount.

It's a pretty basic concept, just doesn't work for me because I find the sound it makes wether hitting the outside, or the inner swinging piece, is not much difference in sound.

I like my various sizes of cow bells from tractor supply or farms stores much better.

YMMV
