How big is it?

This pic was taken this morning. It's a Coyote paw print. An easy 3" across. From what I've read 2.5" is on the large size of an average dog. From those of you who hunt them regularly how much bigger do you think it is? Oh, the sand was wet and well packed as it rained over night until 5/6 in the morning. The pictures were taken around 11am. And a hoof print to start

11am.

For those wondering this came from Race Point in Provincetown on Cape Cod. It was in a very large protected area of the National Sea Shore. No hunting of any kind is allowed. The deer are larger and so are the Coyotes. A 50-65lb dog in theses areas isn't uncommon. As an aside I spooked three doe a few day earlier all around 140lbs.(bigger prey, bigger prey animals). Another oddity is that they travel, and hunt in packs. If I had been smart I would have taken more pictures of the half dozen other tracks around this one, including the deer they were pushing. Next time if I'm so lucky.

Southern new england yotes are some of the biggest in the country. 50lb is not out of the question. 60 probably is for my area, but maybe the national seashore is the kodiak of coyotes. I had one in the back yard which was taller than our full grown labrador, probably would weigh less, but it was a big sob. I'll post a pic later, but the narragansett coyote project is a good resource for learning about our regions bigger and badder coyotes.

Ps they love pears.
