How Accurate are Cleaning pellets?

 A ..177 cleaning pellet weighs around .25 gram and come out my PCP around 1270 fps (yes, supersonic crack that sounds like a 22). That's about .9 ft/lbs of energy. They will not even penetrate a piece of cardboard (they will dent it and bounce off) 5 feet away. At 10 feet I missed a 8x10 piece of cardboard aiming for the center. They are not at all accurate.

I shoot mine at a towel about 8 ft away because they stick to it and are easier to recover. The other day I put 2 or 3 drops of Ballistol on one of them and it went through 2 layers or towel at 8 ft.

Yep, no surprise there. 1250 fps on a cleaning pellet that absorbed oil (now 1.8g) is 6.25 fpe. That's like 50% more energy than a 10M pistol shooting 7.8g pellets at 500 fps (4.3 fpe).

And I'm guessing with a handle like that you are shooting .22 cleaning pellets so even more energy.

Yes I didn't shoot them over the chrony but the ones with Ballistol had way better penetration.

To get a really mean cleaning pellet just soak with superglue and let it dry.

I used to shoot them in my .177 Beeman Webley pistol. Used them to kill carpenter bees and flys from about 8 feet.

This definitely wins the award for being the most unusual and unexpected question asked about cleaning pellets.

i could see people asking about how well they clean, how loud they are and even how dangerous but I never though to ask about their accuracy.

I shoot them at my basement floor. They make something go deaf before it kills them.

Actually, Zebra, they are supersonic out of most PCPs. So the poor critter will be dead before it hears the bang.

I wouldn't recommend shooting them through a springer. I run them manually through my Diana 34. Don't like the idea of the piston slamming into the end of the compression chamber which it normally does not do when firing a pellet. Almost as bad as dry firing.

This reminds me of something I used to do a kid. I had a Crosman .22 pumper, and I'd use a .22 LR case to make slugs from slices of potato. I could hit small toys from about 5 yards.
