HOT DEAL on new LAMINATE 177 FX Wildcats for $999.00 at AofA !!!

With the MKII out, it is hard to give away a MKI

I have two Mk1's and couldn't be happier with them, .25 and a .22, I do wish I had one with a laminate stock though, I just bought a Laminate Streamline .22 and was very impressed with the stock, I priced a Wildcat laminate stock alone and they around $550.00 for them! If I hadn't just got the Streamline I would be all over this deal! I would want it checked for accuracy first haven't heard much about .177 accuracy in the Wildcat. I'll vouch for it in the Mk1 .22 and .25 though!

Based on MY experience with a MK1 in .177 I'd say DEFINITELY so. I could shoot single hole groups at 25yds with my ST .177 barrel. Look at all the recent posts with the MK2. I think they call it "x" barrel? of liner. Most are complaining about the accuracy. If I hadn't gotten away from .177's I wouldn't have sold it, that's for sure.

Of course it is. FX gave you a barrel liner and then claimed its an innovation. Barrel liners have been around for decades. There is nothing innovative about it. Before the X barrel , FX gave you Smooth Twist in a real barrel and claimed it was an innovation. It was.

For innovation, I think the innovation is in manufacturing techniques, not the smooth twist bore itself. Several rifle bores exist that are incredibly similar (Whitworth, Lancaster, and perhaps Metford) that are essentially smooth bore type rifling.

Where FX wins the day is in manufacturing techniques, making it available to the masses, and in modifying an existing design for air rifles that is incredibly accurate.

As for accuracy of Smooth Twist and Smooth Twist X, I have the Impact in .25 with an original Smooth Twist. I upgraded to a new X Barrel, and frankly, can't tell the difference in barrel accuracy. Though, you must remember I'm a lousy shot, with either barrel I can still put up a 1.5 inch at 75 yards. The improvement if the X-Barrel is only incremental over the original, but gives the experimenter the opportunity to use liners to change twist rates if desired.

My own opinion is that 99.9% of us with the new X-Barrels will tune the gun, and never touch it again. I'll never buy a new slug liner because I don't want to foul up all that tuning work on the primary barrel.

Modular guns sound great, but how many AR-15 shooters have one lower and 10 uppers? Few want the hassle of changing even the most minimal bits of hardware, so they buy a new lower to go with each upper. I'll be the same way, if I want to shoot slugs accurately, I'll probably buy a slug gun or a new primary gun and tune it. It's just so much work to properly tune a gun, I can't see changing liners.



Just me, 

I've been advised by two people, who have every reason to know, that if you want a .177 caliber air rifle, FX is NOT the brand to choose. Presumably for accuracy issues. That could be one of the two reasons (Mk I being the other) that this rifle is being discounted.

I think the new MK2 177 FXs in general with the X barrel liners are the inaccurate ones that folks are complaining about based on doing some due dilligence and the MK1s are the better and more accurate ones. I will surely find out next week!!!

Mine (MK1 WC) had been accuracy tested at 50 yards and easily got sub 3/8" with many keyholers.

I paid more than $999 for the one I got coming. Its complicated. DON'T ASK!

There is a simple hidden rule for 177s with ST barrels you have to shoot them hot in order to get the best accuracy.

Hey CA... you may be quite right about that.

I wish it weren't so, as I would love to have a Wildcat in .177 that is as accurate as their larger calibers are! Perhaps the Mk I actually IS the hot ticket in a .177 Wildcat.
