Sometimes when you test rifles, one comes along that is just right. Even helps to build a little confidence behind the trigger. Well this new Huntsmen Revere in .22 caliber is just that airgun.....
YESTERDAY:
Even though I get the opportunity to shoot many airguns, there is still that feeling of excitement when opening the box and squeezing that trigger. So like a dingdong, I went right to the range to give it a try. This was a rookie mistake. The rifle was grouping well, but a flyer always seemed to sneak up on me, but you could tell it wanted to do more. The session wrapped up with me scratching my head (probably why I am losing my hair). Then it hit me! Like a dingdong, I hadn't cleaned the barrel! Duh. Once the family hit the hay, I took to the garage to clean the barrel, running patches with ballistol and then dry patches until it was so clean you could drink out of it (wouldn't suggest actually dinking from a barrel like a straw).
TODAY:
Hit the range nice and early and OMG what a difference. The full potential of the Huntsman Revere was revealed. The clouds parted, the rays of light shown down and the Daystate Huntsman Revere performed magnificently! Only took one try to get a 5 shot group of .478 ctc at 50 yards.
So I decided to get a bit cocky as I was feeling good and gave some 10 shot groups a go. I did 4 groups in a row to look for consistency. The dang gone rifle still performed giving me 3 - 10 shot groups @ 50 yards at .778 ctc and one that was just a hair larger. If I could put the rifle in the hands of a more capable shooter, I bet those groups could shrink.
From groups I moved on to the KYL target at 25 yards. Yep 100%. Then moved it to 50 yards. Yes, it took a couple of tries, but I was able to clear it in short order too.
WOW, if you get a chance to get your hands on one I would recommend it. (Probably why AoA is sold out! However a little bird told me a new shipment is expected shortly)
