Finally got out and got a hog. Been on the list since I moved to the area about 7 months ago. Took this one about 10 pm, she went right down twitched a bit and it was over. No squeal no sound at all. Roughly 50ish yards away couldn't range her in the dark but that's about what it looked like and what I was sighted for. Hit just below the ear. 

Impact (original version) .30 700 mm barrel, looks extra long because I added a few sections to the stock moderator from my .22 barrel

JSB 44.75 @ 865 fps putting out around 75 FPE. I haven't adjusted the reg since I moved from Utah. Big elevation change.

Nice shot. I’ve been wanting to get out and find where the nature bacon has been hiding here in Michigan myself. I’ve heard they like the swampy areas here. What was the terrain like where you got this one?

It was a mix of field, light woods and heavy brush. They didn't like the open areas but didn't mind the open woods. There were several patches of oak trees where they were rooting for acorns and whatnot. All of this was near a creek where the brush was heavy. They'd stay in the brush and you could hear them in there. We stalked a bit and then just waited for them to come to the open wooded areas. Hope that helps. I'd say look for areas away from the beaten path with accessible water and good cover. Then look for signs of rooting where the ground it tore up. You'll know they're in the area. Remember they don't see well but they can hear and smell really well.

So they will know I’m there long before I see them... lol. They are considered an invasive species here in Michigan. So they are open to hunting all year with a small game license. I don’t think we have a huge population here yet. I could be wrong. Most of the DNR sighting reports have been in swampy brush covered areas. So what you are saying makes sense. Im thinking fall/ winter might make them a little easier to find because the cover is down. Thanks for the info.
