H&N pellets- who likes them?

They shoot for me. 25 yards.

I have very little experience, shooting a .22 Air Venturi Avenger that I just got a few weeks ago and have been running the H&N Barracuda Hunters as the first tin of many types I got to try out.

The best rest I have is to brace against a pole on my front porch while standing and I can keep them grouped inside a quarter at a measured 30 yds if I'm patient. They have really put the smackdown on chippies and squirrels for me so far. My shooting is nearly all offhand and 30yds or less right now.

Like any pellet or bullet... when they work they are great. When they don't they suck. I find JSB work better 4 out of five applications. The H&N are really hard and most guns don't like that as much as softer pellets. The Crossman Premier Heavies are kind of in between as far as hardness and they work well in a couple of my PCP's. They used to be way cheaper than JSB but Crossman, Pyramid etc recently rased the price in the last month or so when the last inventory came in.

H&N are not bad by any means and miles ahead of RWS and all the smaller players. My guns just shoot JSB better and more consistantly. That is except the crummy JSB 10.34 Heavies with the head sizes all over the place and WAY out of spec.

My HW97 springer absolutely loves H&N FTT over anything JSB.

After about 5 months of owning my .25 avenger I have come to the conclusion that it likes the H&N baracuda hunters the most out of all of the pellets I bought. The close second was the standard FX branded JSBs. I have shot the standard JSB, JSB king heavy, Hybrid slugs, 34 grain H&N hollow point slugs, H&N hunter extremes and the JSB hades. I bench shoot at 75 yards and free shoot out to 150 yards and none of the listed projectiles come close to the accuracy of the baracuda Hunters. Just my .02

Side note, Im firing them off at about 860 fps

The only H&N pellets I have tried were the 14.97gr .177 Sniper Magnums which didn't work well out of the Nova Vista Freedoms I have that are not working now and I am still considering converting them to bottle guns because they were SO accurate with CPUM/LUM77 10.5 pellets.

However, the 14.97gr .177 Sniper Magnums shoot REALLY well out of my Benjamin Fortitude Gen2. Of course, H&N quit making them and I only have about 200 left so no point in tuning the gun for them now... (sigh)

Story of my life. (chuckle)

Not me!
I’ve tried the barracuda, barracuda hunter, and hunter extreme’s in my .22cal rifles. The rifles I tried them in were my old gamo hunter, a gamo magnum, and an Evanix airspeed. All three rifles hated them. Accuracy at 20yrds was, well, none. Some groups at 20 yrds were 1-1/2” inches and worse.

Turns out my gamos like the cheap crossman’s from Wally World. Including my .17cal cfx. I’ve heard gamo barrels are a little “rough” and chew up soft lead but h&n aren’t known to be soft. So who knows.

I should have taken some photos of the groups with the H&N’s maybe I’ll load up a mag this weekend.

Different guns like different pellets. Some may like the H&N however, mine do not.

When I first got the Prod, the jsb 14.35 pellets( pre covid purchase) groups just a hair better than the H&N Ftt 5.55 ( pre covid purchase). I decided to order more of jsb when first available ( during covid) and it grouped horribly. When comparing both pre and during covid jsp pellets, I noticed a slight change in the design. Why change something that isn't broken!? I decided to purchase H&N FTT 5.55 when first available ( during covid), and it grouped the same or better than before...the design looks the same but it's just consistent. I am not cheering for any manufacturer per se...but at this moment in time, H&N is my go to for my Prod.

I have 20 something break barrels and at least half shoot H&N very well. All my .177's have loved the Sniper Mediums and for now, no worries on running out since I have 7700+ sitting here and only 3 rifles left in the caliber. They also shoot the FTT's pretty well among a couple others.

HW95 .22 shoots the FTT 5.54grs lights out and if I miss, it's all me and not the pellets or the rifle. Beeman R9 and R7 both in .20 are just as accurate with the FTT 11.42's as they are with the JSB 13.73's. Also have a custom built by Diana D34k Premium .20 that shoots the 11.42's better than the JSB 13.73's the LW barrel on it was designed for.

Add a few Hatsan .25's I use as short range/brush gun pest hammers that like the FTT's and Crow magnums as much as the JSB 25.39gr. Let's me save those JSB's for the 3 PCP's in .25 that are the only thing I feed them.

Barracuda Hunter Extremes in the 25 cal 28.4g are my go to’s and whenever I get a pcp, top of the list is to make the gun conform to this pellet.

i don’t have a lot of wishes, but the one I do is for H&N to make one in a 30 cal. Till then, the 30 cal Haydes will do and have surprised me with their straight out of the tin accuracy.

In break barrel springers or gas rams, the H&N crow magnums have ways done well for me.

Never was a JSB fan till I got my Impact in 25 cal, and on that I only use the MK2 Heavys in 33.95g. In 30 cal it’s now the Haydes or my secret stash of the original Vortex pellets. I’m going to hate it when those are gone.
