I've been noodling the pro's and con's of a few airguns that are on my radar. The Impact that I had was a good exercise in figuring out what I want out of a high powered PCP.
Heres what I'm looking for:
I have a few rifles on my radar:
I'm essentially looking for something solid with power out of the box that I could scale up later on down the road if I chose to do so. I wouldn't want to have to machine parts, become a YouTube celebrity for unicorn upgrades, just to get reliable LR groups with heavier ammo. With that said, I don't mind upgrading with parts that are readily available, and I would definitely be in a better position towards the end of the year to build my own upgrades- I just don't have the time right now to do it, and want something that I can just tune and shoot.
I know that I'm probably missing some options, thoughts?
Heres what I'm looking for:
- .22 or .25 (slug / heavy pellet capable - .30 might be doable, but I have a big bore build planned in the near future, so unless this checks all the boxes - that will be a different story)
- high power (~100fpe would be great, but somewhere closer than further)
- tight groups to at least 125y
- shrouded (much closer to backyard friendly than a Texan .45)
- quality build and durable enough for outdoor hunting in the miserable PNW outdoors
- replacement parts available
- Not an FX nor a Daystate
I have a few rifles on my radar:
- RAW HM1000X LRT - this is a beautiful looking rifle! It appears to be very high quality, I'm not sure if QC is an issue now that AF owns the brand though
- Huben K1 - I never thought that this would be on my list. I don't like a few things about it, to include their magazine system (also seems limited on slug lengths). Reliability issues are a concern of mine too, but the power is perfect!
- RTI Priest 2 - it is starting to intrigue me, I'm not sure the power is where I'd like it to be though
- AAA Evo Tactical
- Beaumont - they do have the .22 with 118fpe! I'm not interested in importing anything though, and I definitely want to keep the base sticker tagower than a new imported Beaumont
