Here’s Why I dumped 50% of my Center Fire Rifles to Get into Airguns

Growing up air guns were fun. A right of passage. Something you pumped up 15 times even though the rule was 10. You shot black birds, and ground squirrels, and then when you got old enough, you graduated to the 22LR and never looked back. Three years ago at Christmas I bought a Gamo 22 break Barrel to deal with some pigeons in our pole shed/barn. I was impressed at the accuracy albeit I was shooting in close and short quarters. It did the job ridding me of those pigeons and I didn’t have 20 holes in my pole shed undoubtedly using a 22LR would have produced. From there on a whim I bought a 25 Caliber break barrel and then a 30... mostly for plinking purposes in the back yard. I still ventured down the road 15 miles to shoot my centerfire rifles in particular my 6.5 creedmore at 1000 yards... hitting steel that far way is a drug... I’ve hunted deer and antelope but in the last 6 years I’ve only shot coyotes and raccoons and possums and badgers etc... other than hitting Steel at 1000 yards I haven’t killed anything over 200.... other than coyotes many of which have been taken inside that range except for the challenge of hitting them at 800 yards with the Creedmore. I love shooting... hitting steel and trying to get a hole inside a hole.... my property lets me get to 125 yards... but other than a 22LR you can’t be blasting 308 rounds when cattle are across the road. Packing guns, and Ammo cans, and targets etc to drive 15 miles to a farm with enough land to stretch out and shoot those guns became a chore, and a hassle. For two years every centerfire I owned minus a 22LR and 223 sat in the gun safe and collected dust... what a waste... we still sat in the backyard many of nights and shot break barrels as a family... 25 yards 50 yards... and it was a blast.... then it dawned on me... why do I have thousands of dollars of guns sitting in a safe that never get used when we can shoot in the back yard all day long... I sold some centerfire rifles and scopes and we bought

Hatsan Hercules 35 Cal

74CUFT air venturi tank

25 Caliber Umarex Gautlent

Nomad 2 (which came to us defective and is on it’s way back to PA)

2 UGT 4x16x44 scopes

I lost a bit of money on the centerfire units and scopes I sold but this stuff is getting used and my local fire department is more than willing to fill my tank for me with the adapter I purchased. I can shoot all the predators and varmints I did before and plink in my back yard all day long.... WIN WIN... glad to be here and anxious to learn..

I agree with shoot44, it's amazing how many problems can exist in a $2000 air rifle, it can be maddening. Good thing I have a friend that knows PCP's better than most shops do, thanks Bobby!

Had a 375CT that sat in the safe most of the time so I did like the OP, not worth keeping a $4000 rifle that hardly got shot and was $5 every pop.

I have a 6mmBR that I shot last weekend, this is all on steel, one splat at 407Y for 2 shots, one splat at 507 for 3 shots, 1.5" at 792Y for 3 shots! I love the rifle and use it often.

Nearly every Wednesday myself and friends meet for a shootfest, that can include AG's, rimfires, and centerfires. We must have 15 small steel to 191Y that we shoot the AG's at which is a lot of fun and plenty of challenge.

I like that AG's are cheap to shoot and quiet with a moderator!

Funny to see this as I have been thinking of selling 14 centrefire rifles I have not shot in twenty years. But I did sell 9 Excalibur crossbows last year. No one needs 11 crossbows. CHEERS!

This made me laugh, I’ve sold 5 crossbows and still have 4 left and want to get it down to two, one recurve and one compound, I did however sell a SCAR 17s to further my airgun purchases and now I wish I would of kept it and sold a few ARs instead. Now I’m down to only 9 airguns and one pistol after selling off a few other airguns and now I think I’m finally down to the ones I’ll use but then again I still haven’t found my Favorite airgun yet.

steelo32, this is a addicting hobby/sport just like powder burners and archery are addicting to some of us, it never seems to stop it only slows down a bit but when you add the tanks and air compressor it’s definitely a set hook.

Have fun and enjoy.
