Now I guess we see if it lives up to hype. 25 cal katran standard. 15 1/2" barrel , OAL 35"
Great looking PCP, looking forward to your range impressions.

had a chance to hit the range. had a bit of swirling wind on and off , not to bad. was putting together about Half dollar size group at 50 yards. Now before you jump on that , I was shooting it only with a bipod , and bracing it as best I can without a rear bag , there is no bag rider yet. did this with 34g JSB pellets as well as 34g AVS slugs .2513 cup base. The 25.3g JSB and the 34g and 35g AVS slugs dish base .2513 were decent , but not near as good. The 25.3g pellets probably suffered from the breeze more. At 75 yards it felt more like the gun was "lobbing them in"
The 42 FPE of this gun is decent , better yet , it seems to have little issue with slugs , at least AVS ones anyway. But as they say , so little time , so many projectiles to try. Fortunately , utah sent the gun shooting a little bit hotter than it's advertised. My opinion so far is the standard is a ready , with additional moderation, out of the box pellet and slug gun out to 50-70 yards with minute of squirrel head accuracy in a hunting situation. The long version would get you easily an extra 30 yards.
NOTE - I am in no way a strong shooter , did not have ideal benchrest conditions , did not shoot from a gun vise. Any one can achieve these results , most likely better . From the 25 cal perspective , given the difference in "bark" from the long version of this gun. I read from others the bark is definitely less noticeable with the long version , from what I saw , with a suppressor on they sounded close. there was a shooter next to me with the long version and they had a donny fx mod and I had a huggett standard , both 25 cal guns and they sounded equitable in loudness , which was not bad at all. If you were going 25 cal on this gun. the long version out of the box seems to give you about 20% more power with the 4-5 " longer barrel, and is suppossedly almost as quiet without any extra mod , as the standard version is with one. I can't vouche for that , but TMH above could.
lastly , you can definitely double load slugs , you need to be deliberate with the cocking cycle. If you are not really paying attention , you cock the lever lightly the slug can fail to seat all the way in the barrel and you feel resistence , and when you pull back the lever again to try to seat it , second slug tries to sneak in. If slugs are your deal , bring the proper size wood dowel along to easily fix this issue if it occurs , I did it once , but after that , I was deliberate every time I cocked it and the gun was issue free.
Is it 100yds Veteran accurate?
@rangur1, thanks for taking the time to post up your impressions.
Is it 100yds Veteran accurate?
The long can be not sure the standard has enough juice to it. Taipan goes to 50 FPE in standard and 60 FPE with the long. Katran standard is about 42 FPE so figure accordingly. But it definitely is at 60 yards , pellets or slugs.
let me add to this after thinking about it. Since the standard katran came similarly powered as my 25 taipan shorty , which I also shot. it is as accurate as the shorty at 50-75 yards , didnt do 100 yards.
