Help with Benjamin Rogue .357 & Evanix Rainstorm Bullpup .357

I was recently given these two big bore air rifles from an estate. They have been in storage for 5 years. I have a small caliber .22 break barrel and not really interested in getting into the PCP world particularly big bore so I want to sell these. I've done some online research and found the Rogue is no longer made.

I have no easy way of verifying the condition/operation except they both look new. Unfortunately they were separated from the magazines and neither have them.

So looking for suggestions on where and how to sell these and the value. It appears the value on air rifles does not hold well like firearms. I know what they were purchased at new and expect a heavy discount to move them quickly.

I thought this forum would be a good place for expert help. Your thoughts???

Thank you for any assistance you can offer.

Bryan

DON'T TEST FIRE THEM WITHOUT AIR!!!!!!!

*edit*
Sorry for the immediate dramatic post there, but I wanted to get a post up ASAP, so I could then take the time to write a longer and more thoughtful/helpful post. Airguns do NOT like to be dryfired if there is no air in the cylinders to oppose the hammer. Doing so even once can ruin the valve stem, which particularly on the Rogue you probably don't want to have to figure out how to replace.

The current Evanix Rainstorm II new is about a 700$ gun if memory serves. The original bullpup was somewhere in that range, but wasn't particularly desirable if memory serves. If yours is in really mint condition, holds air, shoots well, etc I don't think you'll get more than 600$ for it in the classifieds unless you find that one guy if you know what I mean. I am not the one to ask about the Korean guns though, so people should please correct me if I'm wrong. If you don't have the equipment or inclination to pressurize or test it, so have to sell it in unknown condition and as-is I'd figure you're in maybe the 2-400$ range. Again if you can pressurize it and test shoot it and everything is great you can sell it for a lot more than if you just have a couple pictures and say "as is."

The Benjamin Rogue is a bit more of an interesting thing. I think they were about 1.2K new, and had some fancy electronics on board to run them. For whatever reason though, they were never particularly popular. This was probably in part the lack of available well priced air compressors to feed them, and in part because all the field reports on them at the time showed pretty poor accuracy. I sort of expected them to develop a cult following once discontinued, however if there is such a cult I haven't seen evidence of it. Again don't dryfire it without air in the cylinder, but if it will hold pressure and the electronics power up and appear to be working it is probably worth considerably more. Again my personal rule of thumb is that unknown as-is condition on a product is generally a quarter of retail value, so somewhere around 3-400$ maybe? Flip side of the coin is if you can test the condition and you can find that one guy who really wants it, he might pay a pretty penny for it maybe even more than retail. I just don't know.

Full disclosure A) assume I know nothing, after all I'm just some dude on the internet. If someone else comes along who knows better PLEASE correct me and B) years ago I wanted a Benjamin Rogue and never got one, so assume I'm some kind of dirty filthy liar trying to cheat you and get at least one other person's advice before listing it. :)

I hope that was some sort of helpful.

*edit2*
Also if you're wondering why you can't list things in the classifies yet, it is because you have to be a contributing member of the forum before access to that is unlocked. ;)

Thank you for the detailed post. I am not inclined to test these as I don't have the equipment. This does make them an 'as is' sell I know and I expect the reduced price. Your pricing on them new is in agreement with what I have found. I found new pricing on the Rogue when it was available at $1300-$1500.

25 cents on the dollar is low but would be acceptable without proving they work. I found some Youtube videos on each of them which were positive but I would expect that after someone invested a lot of money on them. I did removed the low batteries in the Rogue and try new ones. The electronics fired up and looked functional.

Do you think the classified here is the best place to list them? These bigbore air rifles are in a different league than I am familiar with.

Thanks,

Bryan

Yes, post on the classified here and another good place is 'gatewaytoairguns' because forums like this are where is where the enthusiasts who would buy one hang out.

What you need to do is find an airgun shooter in your local area who can fill and test the rifle for you. Anyone here?

As per the Rogue, it is actually a rifle ahead of its time and if you will avoid the 'quick cheap emergency fire sale' someone who really wants one will come along to collect it. Not 100% of original price but 50 to 65% would be reasonable IF there was a guarantee on it's working.

It would have been me as I always wanted one but I just plopped down $2200 on a .357 Slayer.

Do you have pics of the two rifles together? Wouldn’t hurt to include proof that it’s a current pic. Any buyer / seller feedback in the airgun community? I mean no offense, just asking that you put our minds at ease. You’re trying to sell stuff 3 days after joining AGN, and happen to have a Rogue 2 days after a “WTB” ad was placed for one.

Brian,

Good point. The reason I did join this forum was to get advice as I just received these air rifles. I would likely not be an active member as I don't plan to keep them. I was looking for help to know where and how to sell them in a forum or place that has active individuals who are involved in this hobby. I haven't looked at the classifieds and didn't notice someone was just looking for one.

It does appear to meet requirements to list something here on the classifieds, I need to have posted a number of comments. I may just hang in here for that reason. I would apologize for 'using' this forum for my benefit but I feel this is a plus for someone that may buy these as well.

Note: I did sell the Rogue

I thank all for their comments and advice. If I stay on this forum too long, I may get interested in these big bores and resent my selling the rifles!

I have one of the few, still fully functional Benjamin Rogues out here. My Rogue is in like-new condition and shoots like a champ. Let me dispel some rumors or misinformation about the Benjamin Rogue...

1) The Benjamin Rogue .357 is an AWESOME gun.

2) It's demise was that, it was a gun marketed for hunting. However electronic components and the elements don't play well together at all; and the Rogue suffered because of that. Those Benjamin Rogues that are still functional today, are those that were not exposed to adverse outdoor weather.

3) It is VERY accurate as a hunting gun! Whoever started the rumor that the Rogue is an inaccurate gun, never shot the gun themselves.
