Help! My .30 Slug \"A\" liner shoots nielson slugs like it\'s a 12 gauge!

I've tried every setting, every speed, every different possible option. I'm getting 2.5-3" groups at 100 yards. Ive tried the 43 and 47 grain nielson slugs from every speed from 1000 down to 900.

Nothing helps. Do I need a different liner? A different slug? Anyone with a .30 cal with any experience tuning this beast would be greatly appreciated...

May not be the same issue. But I was having the same sort of accuracy issue when using the pin probe, went back to the pellet probe and my Impact was a tack driver again!

For some reason the pin probe wasn't seating the slugs or the pellets properly.
I'm not saying that's your issue but it might be something to consider.

Also more information would be needed to try and figure out what your gun is doing. i.e. FPS, Regulator pressure hammer settings etc....

All these things play a role in tuning the rifle to it's optimum. Did you watch the Tuning videos on the M3?

Oh?? Did you clean you liner before you shot it??

I think the guys talking about seating depth could be onto something, possibly. I don't have a Slug A, but my superior heavy in .30 doesn't like those light weight slugs that much. It does best with the 49.5 and up. I can tell you that the superior heavy does extremely well with the 54.5, 61.5, and 65.5 grain NSA slugs. The 49.5 grain did pretty well too, but I haven't tested them at anything longer than 30 yards. The 43.8 didn't do well at all, even at 30 yards. The other thing I would think about is harmonics. Is your liner carbon sleeved or are you using the factory o-rings? Knife may have already helped ya, if you gave him a call though ;)

Ok. Fellows here's a few updates.

Someone mentioned cleaning the barrel. So I pulled it and gave it a good cleaning with rags and solvent. Boy was it dirty! But accuracy was no better.

3" at 100.

Next i took a slug gently tapped it into the barrel and pushed it through with a cleaning rod. It was fairly stiff at first, in the middle was quite loose. And the last 3 inches were really tight!

I didn't know these slug barrels were still choked!

Anyways, after scrubbing the barrel till it shone, I could see big scratches in the center of the barrel. Not sure what they mean but probably not good.

A big thank you to all who are taking time out of their busy day to help me try to diagnose this. It is much appreciated! God bless!
