Help choosing a plan B pcp rifle

hey guys

so long story short I bought my 14 yr old boy a stormrider refurb .22 from pa about a month ago

ordered a second barell band along with it and gun arrived in perfect shape

did all the normal cleaning/screw tightening/scope mounting and got it on the range

at 10 yds with jsb 18.1 s it was stacking pellets at 25 yds it would shoot two or three in a group and scartter the rest

at 40 yds it was a scattergun lol. Anyway called pa and found I had 6 days left on warranty so I got an ra and sent it back to them to have a look at it

so my question would be if the stormrider for whatever reason cannot be repaired what would be a good alternative to it ??

Im thinking the hatsan flash .22 is about the closest tho it's a bit more coin But the big thing is I need a rifle that checks the lightweight box like the stormrider does at 5 lbs The flash checks in around 5.9 which is still ok but much heavier and my son will refuse to shoot it and bitch about the weight and use it as an excuse not to go hunting with it I just know that's how it will go down if I hand him a 8 or 9 lb rifle

so what's your guys opinion ?? Is the flash the best plan b rifle ?? Or should I be checking out something else ??

He will use the gun for small game to 50 yds or less but it has to be the right setup weight wise or he's out I can just picture it coming if I hand him a

tank of a rifle lol

thanks for any info

Hey

guess I should have put in a budget for the plan b rifle huh lol

I'm looking to stay under $400 total I already have scope and rings

paid $150 for the stormrider but I'll up the anty if I can find him the right weight alternative

I thought about the fortitude too I have a Maximus hunter and he shoots it fine but the fortitude won't match the flash power wise so guess I'll have to factor that in too

edgun is out of the question he will beat it to death and I won't even let him shoot my compatto 😎

Thanks for the replies

Go to Krale Schietsport in the Netherlands and look at the Artemis P15 in .22 caliber. Shipped to you in 3 days. Excella reputation herd in US. Lots of us buy from them . This is the same gun Diana is bringing in with their name and a fancy stock around December. It check all your boxes. Titanium air tank, high shot count , very light weight, etc. SPA ALSO sells the very same gun under their name.

Only trouble is you will want it,and there will be a big tussle.

Don't worry even if your 14yo son could drive, he could run over an Edgun twice with an SUV back and fourth and it would still shoot spot on!

I would worry about Fortitude's cocking effort more than the Maximus due to the heavier hammer spring.

I suspect the magazine is the culprit with your Stormrider's inaccuracy.

Have you tried single loading and shooting for accuracy?

The magazines are the weakest link on the Stormriders.

If it is indeed the magazine giving you problems then just

exchange the magazines and if still a no go then watch

Hajimoto's magazine mod on his Gauntlet video.

Second barrel band you already knew what to do.

But you simply can't beat the price of these.

I would start by single loading for accuracy first before returning the gun

and I would opt for a replacement because of the price. Don't forget to

remove the extra barrel band first.

Crosman P rod Amazon $350 and lane regulator $104, That gets you close to budget. There's a lot of cool thing's you can do to the prod for Father and son time. Check out folding stocks, tss valves, bottles kits or fitting disco tanks and barrels to it, cool stock kits and valve mods to do at home. Mine shots 36 shots at 685 fps per fill with 15gr JSB's. Holding one inch groups at 50yards all day long. I take it camping and its the star of the show around camp,

If you get one and a regulator, PM me if you have questions on your install

I would go with the crosman marauder pistol also. Cant get much lighter than that and it is very accurate. On a side note. Since you are in california where it is warm why not look into a good CO2 rifle for him? Unless you definately want pcp. Because if he is complaining of the weight and may not go hunting maybe he isnt really into it. I found the hard way with my son. He would say yeah yeah I will go but never did. Now he has no interest in even shooting. Good luck.

I'll second the Crosman 1701P with shoulder stock with one reservation. It's about a 6 foot pound gun from the factory. You get at least 30 to 60 shots per fill at that adjustment, but it is very low powered 10 meter gun. You can adjust it if you want to higher power, but the shot count goes down accordingly. (I have one and dearly love it for indoor plinking). Great trigger, Lothar Walthar competition barrel, incredibly accurate up to around 30 feet.

The shoulder stock is $25 or so, and you can buy both using the AGNATION 25% discount code from Crosman, free shipping on Fridays.

The Woods Walker and 1720 might be better choices if you want more power, combined with the carbine stock, same deal as above.

I'm hearing some initial production problems with the Fortitude, but not as bad as other new guns. Might want to wait a month or so on a Fortitude to work through the kinks. Fortitude is on my want list, but I'll wait a bit. Great looking little gun, except for the trigger
