Help choosing a First Focal Plane scope?

Lately I've been giving FFP scopes a look. Of course I have a budget for this of about $400, and if possible I'd like to get two. One for my Taipan Mutant .22 and another for my FX Wildcat .25. So far my choices are a BSA 4-14, Primary Arms 4-14, or Monstrum Tactical 6-24 but I'm open to other suggestions. The only base requirement I have for any other scope is that the reticle and turrets have to be in the same units. For reference I typically keep both the mutant and wildcat zeroed at 40yds.

I'd like to hear what folks experiences have been with what I'm looking at, or what they may suggest.
 
At that price point, you may take a look at Athlon Talos BTR FFP 4-14x44 and Argos BTR 6-24x50

several threads in this forum. I own both. Excellent turrets, reticles, and glass. For the Wildcat .25 I highly recommend waiting and spending a couple hundred bux more for the Helos BTR 6-24x50. I have a specific review thread on that one. Excellent scope. 

For the Mutant- I think the Talos BTR is a really good fit. If you can wait until Black Friday sale - you should really consider the SWFA SS 3-15x44. Made in Japan glass and bullet proof. Comes in both SFP and FFP but both versions have matching turrets and reticles. On their website - also check the "sample list" where they sell returns. Great deals.

I recently bought the Athlon Argos BTR 8x34/56 and in all honesty it feels and looks like a $1000 scope. Here's a comparison between two scopes I own at 700 yards. You can clearly see that the Argos at 34x magnification has a way more clear (less milky) image than the Hawke (which is a SFP scope by the way). And the Hawke is quite a good scope also!

The image is a little bit blurry because I looked through a somewhat dirty (closed) window.

I use the eagle vision scope cam set up as well which is one reason I chose the Athlon Helos. As far as the primary arms scope is concerned I don't like mine for an air rifle because the reticle has the least amount of mil dots a mil dot scope can have. I like more reference points for my airguns. I have nothing but good things to say about the Helos. But it is a little more expensive than what you indicated you are looking for. Just my 2 cents. I own the Athlon Argos 8-34 and it's definitely a good scope. Tracking perfectly and decent glass. Surely not the best you can find but hardly beatable in this price range. The Helos has the exact same glass but with some bells and whistles (locking turrets fo instance and the illumination dial placed differently). Unless you need these extras, I personally find the Argos is a better deal. I'm currently waiting for the Ares since it's not available yet here in Belgium. Should be here in the coming weeks but it's a totally different budget.

Hey JD, here is a link to the Argos BTR 6-24x50 FFP Scope that sells for $369.99, and also a link for the Helos BTR 6-24x50 FFP Scope that sells for $569.99. They both come in 8-34X56 models also. The Helos is $200.00 more than the Argos, but I think the extra $200 for the Helos is well worth it. If you decide that you don't really need all that magnification you may want to take a look at the Midas BTR 2.5-15x50 SFP Scope that sells for $559.99. I have two of these...one on my .25 Wildcat and also one on my .25 Streamline, and have no problem hitting paper cups at 130 yards with the greatest of ease. I will include a link for it here also. I believe you will be more than pleased with whichever one you choose. All three scopes mentioned here focus down to 10 yards by the way. Happy shooting!

All I can say is I have the BSA 4-14x44 scope. I like it. I paid $239 or so for it, and I believe it's selling for $139 now. It's bright, and so far, held zero and is easily adjustable.

​Best of all, it's Mildot Reticle, and Mil Turrets, not that stupid Mildot reticle, and MOA turrets. It's got the resettable turrets, and 26.5 mils of elevation, so I assume that 13.25 up and 13.25 down. And since a Mil is 3.4 MOA or so, that's a lot of elevation. 1 MOA is 1 inch (give or take) at 100 yards, so this should be 45 inches up or down. (Please check my math) but if that's accurate, that's huge movement for a scope (please, check the math as it seems too good to be true.)

​It is NOT rated for springers. PCP's are OK, but springers will kill this scope.

have you ever looked through the MTC viper pro 5-30? I want that scope for my wildcat whenever I buy one but I don't know how good it is at 30x.

i think I want FFP and MIL MIL... 

the search continues for the perrfrct scope...
