Hello all- new member waiting on a delivery!

Hello all-

new member, and new to air rifles. I grew up target and trap shooting (22s and 12GA mostly) and decided to get back into it, but with air rifles instead. For now, I have ordered a Crosman Diamondback NP Elite .22 - just waiting on the delivery. Been doing a lot of reading on break in periods, trigger adjustment and tuning, etc.

If anyone has experience with this rifle, tips and pointers for a new owner would be much appreciated!

Clean the barrel first and springers are very hold sensitive. Where and how tight you hold the gun will affect accuracy greatly. So, try to grip it and hold it the same every time for best results. I shoot mine with the forearm on sandbags off of a bench and get excellent results. Find a pellet the gun likes and continue using it. Lighter pellets may go supersonic so probly have very poor accuracy. Check screws for tightness often if you find loose ones use some blue locktight on them. You got a fairly potent springer so if you put a scope on it make sure it is airgun rated and a well known brand so you can get it replaced when it dies. Have fun with your new gun.

Clean your barrel first thing. Try different types of pellets. All my Magnums like heavier pellets best. Don't use a tight grip just use yourself like a cradle lightly holding a Springer in any position you shoot it is critical. Practice different shooting stances doing a light hold and you will find success. It's going to take a few hundred pellets for your rifle to settle in. Check your screws etc... for tightness occasionally. I would break it in with open sights. It will save some wear on your scope. Get a recoil scope stop from gamo or Hatsan .

Hatsan sells Magnum scope stops for $10 they are not listed in the catalogue so you need to email and ask for them to create a order.

Here is a scope stop from Hatsan goes behind scope to keep it from moving during recoil

Thanks for the tips-I do plan on going through all the screws and mounts to ensure it is all tight and true. The scope that comes with it is not held in high regards, and i don't plan on using it until it is broken in, and then I might even just upgrade immediately and use that as a sight scope or something.

Also, another surprise, my delivery got bumped to today- looks like they shipped it out of Ohio so it is on its way per FedEx!

so, seems to be a lot of congestion with FedEx and a lot of changed delivery dates, but looks like it is finally arriving today. Ive been spending the wait-time reading/watching up on tips, maintenance recommendations, and proper loading, etc. Also, seems to be a lot of discussion around trigger adjustment and modifications. I believe the 'Clean Break Trigger' system that comes with my rifle is a new design over those built into the NP and NP2 Crosmans and Benjamins, but there is general consensus around updating the adjustment trigger and possibly replacing the secondary spring to a lighter compression. I also plan on giving the barrel a good initial clean and checking all screws/etc for proper torque and locktite.Very much looking forward to receipt.

I also purchased some initial pellets- Crosman 14.3g Pointed, and Crosman Premier Ultra dome 14.3g to break it in. After reading up, will probably order some lighter and different shape pellets to see what it likes to eat.

Perhaps you will get lucky with the Crosman pellets: some of my guns like them. However, better pellets exist and do make shooting more fun--due to better accuracy. There's a sampler set from H&N so you can test the variety. I chose to just order 4 at a time (sometimes 8) from PA so that I could discovery the magic pellets for my guns; and, I did. It has made me a very happy camper.

Good luck, enjoy, and be safe,

Archie

Update- so I finally got delivery of my rifle on Thurs. with a busy work schedule and such, I have not really been able to put many rounds through it, but here is my initial thoughts:

Bought from AirGunDepot. Packing and packaging quality was good, and there was no damage on either the shipping box, or the actual packaging. Crosman also packs the rifle in a very secure manner in their packaging, and there was not a sniff of damage or abuse. The rifle itself had not a scratch or fingerprint on it. I fired 2 rounds through it merely to confirm functionality before I went any further, and there were no issue.

I removed all 3 stock mount screws, and saw that they did in fact use some blue loctite at the factory, but the screws were just a bit oily. I degreased them and cleaned them up. The piston/barrel section had some residual oil around the trigger assembly and that had been transferred to the inside of the stock. I removed all the oil from the stock, cleaned the piston, and wiped it down with some wd-40 and then with a micro fiber. Initial quality is more than satisfactory!

I had not purchased a barrel cleaning kit, so I made one from trimmer line and cotton cloth. I used goo gone (the citrus based one) and ran a pad through it- the barrel was very dirty, even for just firing 2 rounds. I suspect that it was oil from manufacturing, and was further messed from the test rounds. ran another pad through it, and then a dry pad to finish.

I test fit the cheap scope that came with the rifle to ensure that it was all as it should be and removed it for the break in period.

I have not started to zero it in yet, as I want to run some more rounds through it. I maybe have a dozen or so rounds so far. The recoil surprised me for an air rifle! The second stage on the trigger is a long pull, so I think I might do the trigger spring modification or the adjustment screw replacement to get shorter travel on that second stage. I also, will be breaking down the trigger assembly at some point to make sure there are no rough spots or burrs, and that clearances on the pins are not too loose.

Overall, my initial customer satisfaction is high. the rifle is exactly as I had expected from my research, and I love shooting it! This should be a perfect addition to my rodent deterrent efforts- I have had a fair amount of chipmunk tunnel damage in the backyard, and this was one of the drivers to making the purchase.

I will update once i have the rifle broken in and zeroed in with more feedback.

Thanks all!
