Healthways Plainsman MX175 Rifle

Good day all, I have recently acquired a 1960ish Healhways Plainsman MX175 rifle, I can find tons of information about the pistols, but virtually nothing about the rifles. This one appears to be missing a key piece to keep the CO2 cylinder locked into place. Does anyone have any info on this or possibly a schematic so I might try to replicate what is supposed to be there so that I might be able to actually shoot this or test it further to see if it shoots or not? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Wes

I believe you are thinking about the Plainsman pistol. This is the Plainsman rifle. The part missing is called the "Cradle" and sits inside the chamber behind the CO2 cylinder. The Cam lever moves the Cradle to Pierce the CO2 cylinder. I think that is how it work. It may do nothing but hold the Cylinder in place. I have never had the Cradle to try this operation.

Thanks

I have two of the Plainsman pistols. I'm pretty sure they are variant 1 & 2? I also just won a Plainsman MX175 rifle at auction that was delivered today. A rectangular bit was rattling around loose and fell out. You'll see in the pics what my guess was for it's location? For a walnut stock, I was surprised at it's lightness! I can't hazard a guess as to how it's loaded? Much less, how old it is? Stock needs refinishing, but the metal parts look okay. I also noticed it is a soda straw barrel with a solid sleeve, like the pistols. This one will need more research. I am also including a pic of the serial number.

And here are some pics of the pistols. The earlier example has the circle P logo painted white on the grips. The later one has the P logo unpainted in the same place. Replicas of the Colt Woodsman, that makes two more Colt replicas in my collection. I remembered we called them the, " American Luger" when the .22 Colt Woodsman was being pushed at the gun shows back in the day. Both being .175cal, or about 4.4mm, they'll shoot modern steel BB's just fine. Which are 4.2-4.3mm and the magnets in the repeater/loader mechanism needs the steel core BB's to function properly. The rifle seems to be the same? Anyway, here's some pics of the pistols, oldest first with serial # starting in 003. The slightly newer one, interestingly enough, starts with, " 007"! Maybe we should contact Q for the particulars? 😉

Okay, I found an outdated auction listing with some info in it. It claims the dates of manufacture for the MX175 rifle are 1968-1971. That helps even less at making sense of the serial number, " 0264402"? I'm having trouble believing Healthways built 264,402 of these? 4,402 would be more believable. I don't know, but I think his dates of Manufacture are off? He also describes it as a 125 shot BB repeater.
