Hdd vs 3 O-ring mods

I have never tried the "3 o-ring" modification. The debouncer worked well for me, but the comments in my Youtube video suggested that others' experiences were not as good as mine.

As for the depinger - that is completely different from a debouncer. A depinger is a small, circular device that you insert in the air cylinder. It's job is to dampen the vibration in the cylinder caused when the hammer strikes the valve. Think of the cylinder as a tuning fork. It "rings" when the hammer smacks that valve. By placing a depinger in the cylinder, it acts like placing your finger on the side of a tuning fork. Sometimes they work well. Sometimes they don't seem to make much difference. It depends on how much of that 'ring' was caused by the cylinder vs how much was caused by other vibrating parts.

You can make your own "depinger" with a piece of flexible, vinyl tubing. This video is an antique, but it should give you a better idea of how they work. The DIY depinger is still doing its job in my Edgun Matador. In hindsight, I wish I had used a smaller piece of tubing. It would have worked just as well, and I would not have lost as much volume.

"Just a thought. Does this mean that you cant have a depinger in a bottle gun?"

Hi Steven - If your bottle is pinging then I suppose you could de-ping it by putting a restrictive band around the out side.
I have never noticed a bottle that had a pinging problem so I don't honestly know if you would need to de-ping one.

There is another theory that has the sound developing by the pressure wave created from the drop of pressure as the result of the pellet being fired. This wave resonates in the air chamber and by placing an obstruction in the tube or changing the inside diameter will dampen the resonate wave.

I don't remember where I saw it - but, supposedly, by making a tight fitting, 1/4 inch thick rubber washer with a 3/8 I.D. hole in the center and placing it a little off center in the tube is suppose to dampen the ping sound. I looking to try it in my marauder.

Steven - To reply to the O-ring question, called the BStaley Tune. I have been playing with this tune - This tune limits the depth the hammer travels when depressing the valve stem. The tune can flatten out the velocity of the pellet giving over a given pressure. By playing with the O-rings, hammer springs, the hammer striker and velocity adjustment screw you can adjust the tune. It usually lowers the overall average velocity of the pellet and is not a tune that one might use if you are attempting to get the highest velocity from your rifle. But when properly adjusted can eliminate hammer bounce. There is a lot of info to be found on the forums and you can follow the thread I have started that is getting into the BStaley O-ring tune here;

I'm happy to share what I am learning on this or try and answer any specific questions you might have if you have additional interest.

I did the DIY vinyl tubing depinger and it works. Only negative thing is that it does take away a small amount of air capacity. I did the o-ring mod and am happy with it. I did have to increase the hammer spring preload and add to the striker but was rewarded with a very flat 12 shot string sweet spot in the middle of my 16 shot string. Also, the o-ring mod cost under a dollar and does not add to the cocking effort. The greatest expense was a chronograph. Tinkering with a pcp without one would be very difficult.
