Hawke SW Tact Issue Resolved

Hey guys, thought I'd share something I learned today about an issue I was having with one of the SW's . I've been having trouble with the side focus on one of recently acquired SW's . What I had was that the side focus knob would turn about an 1/8 or less of a turn but it wasn't changing the focus. Kind of like it had slack in the knob. I have two other SW's and a couple of Eclipse's and had never noticed the problem. I called Hawke today and talked to Mike who by the way was a great representative of Hawke and told him what mike scope was doing. He told me to try loosening the scope ring upper caps and re-torqueing them. I'm thinking what the heck would that have to do with the problem I'm having. He explained that, as unbelievable it sounded to me, that an overly tightened scope ring can actually distort or egg the main tube and prevent the internal mechanisms to work properly. Rubbish I thought, but when I got home I did as he suggested and low and behold it fixed the problem and also made the knob easier and smoother to turn. His recommendation for getting the correct tightness is to only use the long end of the hex wrench stuck in the allen screws and use the short side of the wrench to tighten with. He said the correct torque is 12 in pounds and that is about what this method yielded. One of the Eclipse's I have on a 22LR always seemed super stiff so I re-torqued it as well and I actually think it helped it as well.
