Hawke Sidewinder 6.5-20x42

I have a Hawke Sidewinder 6.5-20x42 on a wildcat .25 that I really like.

However I'm am about to bid on a used Barrett 99 50 BMG. I would like to try the Hawke on it to see if I really want to invest in the reloading equipment and a Luepold MK4 to finish the gun out for long range. Will I destroy the Hawke? I also have a FX 3-12x44, would that be a better choice?

Again I am not looking to dedicate either I just want to make sure it will be an active gun and not a safe queen with an additional $1100 in the scope and rings mounted on it.

Probably will be shot 10 - 20 times on the first outing, if I like the rifle I will then order the Luepold.

I don't think you'll have a problem with Hawke and their warranty. I have the scope and it's atop a PCP cradled in custom cut foam with a Pelican case. My friend did have a problem with a Nikon Slugger 15 years on an 870. He sent it back to Nikon (Great Service) I gave him a 3X9X32 full sized Leapers. I got it in a trade had stripped rings, ring marked, and scratched. We mounted it eye relief was closer, scope was longer it sort of worked. Long story short about 50 12 gauge 3" slugs in and out of a soft case behind the seat it held the zero.
