Asking this question, after searching the net and this forum, makes look really dumb. Received a NIB Hawke Sidewinder 30 SF from UPS. Opened it up and read the instruction book and wanted to look through and see the reticle. I can't get the flip up covers up. I have 2 rifles with flip up covers and I thought I knew how to operate them but apparently not. Also included were some round pieces of plastic that I think they are calling 'keys'. I have no idea what they are for. Everything else about the scope works just like the others I have. Kind of useless if you can't get the covers open. LOL

Thanks. I don't force things. Finally got frustrated and really pushed on them. They opened. Now to find out what the keys do. Not so important as I can now go mount the thing. Thanks for the fast answers.

The larger key removes the front cover to install the sunshade, the smaller one will help set the rear once your fast focus is set.

The keys work like a coin would work in a curved slot.....only the keys are like a coin cut in half. There is a "tab" on each end of the key that fits in corresponding slots/notches in each cap's inner rings. Use two hands so the key doesn't slip and scratch your lenses. Left to loosen, right to tighten.
