Hawke ED 10-50 x 60 turret problem

hi,
i am new to scopes ad got myself a Hawke 10-50X60 ED and put it on a FX Royale 500.
While trying to zero, i ran out of turns so tried to reset the zero as instructed in the manual.
I made a mistake and did NOT lock the turret before removing the grub screws.
Now when i try to put it back on it is totally jammed and cant even do a single click.
Even the grub screws dont all tighten up, can only tighten one or two, never 3.
Have I messed up big time? is there a way to fix it? if i get new turrets will the problem disappear.
I emailed Hawke but they sent me instructions on how to change turrets not how to fix this.
Help!

i have emailed Hawke again.
in the meantime does anyone know how to dismantle a turret ? maybe if i can open it i can figure out what moves what and where the problem is ? grabbing at straws.
going to order a new set of turrets but worried if that will solve the problem or not.
i think it may have been the mount which was the cause of me running out of clicks as the lining on it was folded on the left and could have misaligned the scope :(

If you tightened the rings too tight to the scope tube, you could easily run out of adjustment as you could have deformed the insides to where the adjustments will not work.. When tightening a scope, you need to be extra careful to not torque the rings too tight into the scope tube. Are you using adjustable rings? Yes, having the ring lining doubled over could possibly throw the windage off. I think that scope has a 30 mm scope tube ... are you using 30 mm mounts? Before you do something that could void the warranty on a $800 dollar scope, I would absolutely advise you to send it back to the factory unless you get a response back from Hawke that there is an easy quick fix. Yes you can send it back to the factory as long as the warranty is in effect ... talk to them on the phone, tell them what happened, get an address, box it up and ship it off.

yes i could have tightened them too tight? but i were able to adjust the windage and elevation.
could i have destroyed the scope?
yes adjustable rings 30mm, hawke.
there are no applicable warranties here :) i am on my own.
sending and bringing it back would end up costing almost as much as a new scope.
so i dont mind messing up the turret or the warranty. i have to do it myself.
if there was a way to know whether a new set of turrets would work or not it would save me about a 100 GBP.
if its the scope i have messed up then that would be an additional loss :(

When you take the scope out of the rings ... is the scope tube indented where you had the rings placed ... if so, how deep is the dent. Those scope tubes are made out of very light weight aluminum and it's not hard at all to dent them up pretty deep. When you tighten them up you should put the long end of the hex head wrench in the slot and only turn it by the short end of the wrench. If you put the short end of the wrench in the slot and turn it with the long end, you'll probably put enough torque on it to cause problems. I would not be buying a new set of turrets until you talk to the people at Hawke ... just ask for customer service and somebody should be able to give you the info you need to make an informed decision.

If you still haven't called Hawke please do since emailing can be slow. Even though you don't think you have any warranty the Hawkes have a life time warranty. I sent them a not new to me Sidewinder but and they still replaced it with a new one. I think if you tear into it and make it obvious that it's been tampered with that might influence them on what they do.

no there is no dent. its just sticky there. think the heat may have caused the mount lining to sweat.
appreciate the advice on using the short end to twist. simple... didnt think of it.
