Hawke 2-7x32 HD IR on R9/HW95?

I have my heart set on putting a light, high quality, compact scope on my R9. I can’t stand big heavy scope and big objectives, or a top heavy springer in the woods. I also like to keep my scopes as low to the bore as possible because I like to shoot up into the trees at squirrels.

I assumed this Hawke would balance out my rifle nicely and fit in the Hawke low rings on my gun. When I saw it for only $150 I jumped on it. Now I am reading it is no good for springers.

Do I need to get another scope? I could put this one on my RWS34 (sub 12 fpe) and get another down the road. But I also plan to return that gun to factory configuration.

Recommend another good scope? I am trying my to keep the weight of my optics under a pound and the size of my objective around 32mm or smaller.

Thanks for looking:)

For what little it might be worth, my standard HW95 .22 with an Airmax 3-9x40 AO and Beeman R9 .20 with the touch bigger Airmax 4-12x40 AO. Only weigh 18 ozs, something like 12 inches long and neither make my guns feel top heavy.

My HW95L/scope weighs 9lb 2.3oz and I used 2 piece Hawke medium tactical rings. This Hawke scope is a 4-16 x 44 mm with a 2" objective lens. The medium rings leave less that 1/8" clearance for the objective. IMO this is an excellent combo that is accurate and loads of fun to shoot. My wife likes the IR feature that has 6 settings.

I appreciate the feedback. Y’all have some real nice rigs.

Almost all my misses on game, I missed high shooting at a fairly steep angle in the trees. I am not gonna sit there and calculate angle and rangefinder and input to ChairGun or whatever. I’ll never get to shoot.

I find the best way to mitigate that is to mount your scope as low to the bore as possible. Plus I really prefer the look and feel. The lower and lighter the scope is, the better the rifle balances. That is just my opinion though.

If the low rings make my cheek weld kind of screwy, I’ll move up to mediums.

I can probably get away with a 40mm obj and medium rings. It might even be a great advantage at range. But for shooting squirrels in the trees i like scopes small, light, low to the bore.

I would wait for the NEXT sale from DVOR-

(Unless you guys are jusy really too happy to pay a lot more for your purchases than needed)

Then again fact is way too many PPL really enjoy paying a lot more for their stuff and only a select FEW like to buy the exact same items for up to half price and sometimes cheaper than half price. I was told that paying regular price makes people sleep easier.

JUST ONE EXAMPLE-

I was told this too-

☝ You know WHO YOU ARE!

BryanH,

I'm the same way. I don't like big bulky scopes on my rifles. My recommendation would be the Hammers 3-9x32AO scope from Amazon. This is the scope I have on my HW95. It has been on the rifle for about 3 months now and works very well. It also comes with a nice one piece mount that mounts the scope low to the bore. It was $65.00 including the mount. Not a high end scope but it gets the job done.

Never heard of DVOR. There are a handful of trustworthy vendors that I am aware of, I usually look at Pyramyd, Midway, AOA, and Straight Shooters and that is my little world of online shopping. Time to learn some new tricks I guess.

I just downloaded the DVOR app. That is a great tip. That is opticsplanet?

I have seen nothing but good stuff about the Hammers line of scopes. I never considered them.

Maybe I should have just spent the money and got the Leupold 4x28 or SWFA ultralight.

I’ll give the Hawke 2-7 a go on the R9. If/when it breaks I will probably rock the irons and surf DVOR for an upgrade. I really wish I had seen that 2-7 Airmax, I would have bought it instead.

I appreciate the pointers.

I prefer scopes with small heads too!

Those with 50mm heads look too colossal for my taste 😁

I think you will be happy with the Hawke 2-7x32 HD IR mildot.

It has, the IR (illuminated reticle, 14 211), model has a glass-etched reticle and considerably thinner than the 14 111 model's wire reticle.

Both have the same appearance, but the 14 211 is approx. 40 grams heavier.

Got one and I like it very much.

For target shooting though the AMX reticle has an edge over the mildot design.

Dvor is basically the overstock outlet for Optics Planet. Excellent prices, shipping is usually $10, free to join and where I bought 5 of the 7 Airmax scopes and the 3 Panoramas I also have. Just on the 5 Airmax scopes I saved $460 compared to regular retail prices. Had to wait some for them to come on sale but was well worth the wait.
