Have any of you guys experienced “In transit, running late” for a week with USPS

I'm expecting a JB Guppy and it's been close to a month. I'm also expecting a Nightforce NX8 through USPS and it's approaching close to a month. USPS has been good to me in the past with lots of orders placed and shipped all the way to Guam. It usually takes about a week to a week and a half for my items to arrive. UPS doesn't work for me out here. To ship a small box via UPS would cost over $100 to $200. What gives me anxiety is the thought that the longer my packages are "In Transit, Arriving Late", there's a chance of my packages being stolen, lost or damaged. Maybe I should start using a freight forwarder. DHL took only 3 weeks to ship wheels and tires to me by boat and it was cheap. What also irks me with USPS is when the package leaves the state of origin to a different state in the opposite direction from my destination. What the hell is this?



I needed to get this off my chest. Rant over. We'll see.

Whoa, I'll try not to rant. Shipment in general has gone to hell in a hand basket. I've had an UPS parcel come to my local distribution center only to to be only to be shipped half way across our great nation. USPS has gone down hill since May, no more detailed shipment tracking, quick service a thing of the past. Many of the suppliers I use for my orchid collecting no longer use USPS for the plants dying in transit. I've had parts from Hatsan listed as delivered only to vanish into thin air, not a trace, poof gone, filing a claim was ludicrous, never resolved. Living in the great hinterlands I used USPS for shipping because of easy access. My local postmistress commiserates with me. Recently sent a gun back to AOA for warranty work priority mail only to have it spend days sitting in the regional distribution center before being sent on it's merry way. Drain the swamp, nah let's populate it with new more dangerous critters.

several hundred sorting machines, each doing over 30,000 pieces of mail per hour have been removed and dismantled. 
All overtime has been halted. 
Late deliveries have been halted. 
This is the reason mail is now taking so long.

The reason is that they are trying to tighten the USPS budget. 
Why they are doing it now, during a pandemic is beyond me. 
So we are going to have to wait longer. NSA slugs are now taking twice as long to reach me. Thankfully I don’t get Meds through the mail.

I am surprised that so few of those complaining about the USPS service decline have not connected the dots as outlined above. If you starve them for resources, constantly beat on them, and THEN add the elimination of overtime, removal of sorting machines plus eliminations of late deliveries what on earth do you expect?



With all the problems, they have still proven to be better for me that UPS recently, and their prices a re better.

The sorting machines being decommissioned are for 1st class mail. The reason is simple. Since 2001, 1st class mail volume has decreased nearly 50%. If you don't have something to sort there is no reason to keep more machines than are required. By cutting machines, you can also cut the technician jobs of the people that do the machine servicing. The job cuts piss off union members that belong to one of the five unions the USPS has.

Over-time is not being cut..check on Snopes.

The budget has been set and is established by the House "D" and the budget in place goes through 2021. Any complaints about being underfunded land in the lap of who controls the House, as they define spending.

The USPS has been losing money at the rate of ~3 billion per quarter..mostly because they are not allowed to increase rates unless allowed by the Postal Commission and are required to pre-fund future retirees' health benefits.

The United States Postal Regulatory Commission is run by political appointees that serve for 6 year terms. Based on the term expirations of the current PRC board, it has only been "R" controlled for the last 2 years.

Yup .... WI to CA took @ 20 days for a small flat rate box.

Still have a customer who's rifle has been lost in route from the east coast to Ca going on 6 weeks now.



Pretty messed up is about right !!
