Hatsan questions??

Blackdiesel, Bwalton, or any of the other Hatsan gurus I need your help. I am really wanting a .30 but all I do is hunt and refuse to spend over $1000 on any airgun. This has led me to Evanix or Hatsan. Because the Hatsan .30 is a QE model, I am leaning that way. I have some questions and concerns. How quiet is the .30? All I care is quiet enough to not need ear protection. Can the trigger be adjusted into a single stage trigger? How light can the trigger be set? How hard is it to get parts if needed? I have a number of Marauders and have piles of parts and they are very easy to mod and work on. One of the only reasons I haven't tried one of the newer Hatsans is because of the lack of available parts and modding info. As long as its accurate and I can get one full clip I will be happy. Any and all info would be greatly appreciated.

My 30 cal is fairly new but I've never had issues getting parts for any Hatsan PCP I've owned. It's pretty quiet, about the level of a 25 cal suppressed gun. I've shot mine in my backyard a lot and my neighbors are fairly close. I'm not sure if you can adjust the trigger to be one stage, but you can adjust the pull distance between the stages. All mine are set at 13 oz pull. At one time my AT44 25 cal trigger was set so low I was firing before I was ready so it was re-adjusted to around 13 oz. As far as mods, there are a few simple mods to make it more efficient using air and you can get as much power as feasible by adjusting the hammer tension. From the factory my 30 cal was getting an average of 72 FPE over 21 shots. It was tuned up to get 14 shots at 100 FPE but was too hot. Now it's set for 85 FPE (930 fps with 44 gr pellets). Did you see the video Baxter posted in the Hunting gate with him shooting a sub inch 100 yard group?

The Hatsan is a good Turkish gun. I have owned a hatsan before. Easy parts, easy adjustment. The match trigger is super. And the gun isn't loud if you getting the QE version. Go for it. The Evanix isn't bad either. Though the gun does have a metallic ping to it while shooting. Both are excellent guns and if you get the 30 cals, hunting is a breeze.

"jobobo"@blackdiesel, what is the difference between a BT65 with a 30 barrel and a BT Carnivore QE in 30?
No difference. On pyramid air the BT 65 QE Is available in .177 to .25 cal. The same gun when used with a 30 or a 357 caliber barrell is called the carnivore. The platform on which the carnivore is built is the same BT 65 platform. At 30 cal the gun gives about 70 to 75 fpe while the 357 gives about 90-95 fpe. 2-3 mags per fill. Both guns are accurate. Some of the most cost effective big bores out there.

I bought my Carnivore .30 back in late March, so Ive been shooting it a while now, 3000+ through the barrel now. Ive cleaned it and adjusted hammer spring to shoot over 900fps for a mag starting at 185 bar. I did that because I had a 3000psi tank and wanted higher shooting volume. I shoot down to about 155 bar, 5 shots with ES of 2-5fps on the various groups Ive measured (Ive measured a lot, but it seems to have settled around ES of 4 at these settings, av 80+fpe). Im only doing that because Ive been spending so much time on accuracy and my technique, making me the largest variable. Im getting better, but certainly not as accomplished as BWalton. I consistenty obtain .5-.75" 5 shot groups at 50yd. 75yd was going so well, pushed out to 87 now, can get 4 within 1" but mentality seems to keep that 5th shot out every time.

Trigger is adjustable and can be set quite light, not sure exact poundage never measured. Ive got six Hatsans and have had great luck with Hatsan service. Most recently (last week) I sent them an email telling them what Ive been doing and one mag just wasnt working as well for accuracy. They provided some ideas, which I already had done, they sent me 2 more mags 2-day, no charge.

It can be quite a pull on that bolt, smoothing out will also help. I mention that because your intent is hunting and if you want a quick follow up you probably dont want to remove shoulder position. Smoothing it out will make it easier to accomplish this. I still dont like the auto safety position on the other side of the action because it take your hand out of the grip, but not a big deal I guess.

I bought this to shoot at various times, without drawing attention, but mostly during napping of the children. My bench is about 30yd from house and it was well known I was shooting my SY .45 but with the Carnivore, no one knows. I do not know exact db but the loudest portion of the shot cycle is he hammer ping and pellet when hitting metal targets. I had Roy make the longest LDC for the Sam, which reduced considerably, and the QE is still quieter. Obviously this is only a .30, but at least in my perception, its qieter than my magnum springers.

I am reading all of the posts on how quiet the 30 caliber QE model is and just do not understand how so many people think they are quiet, I guess it is all about individual impressions of quiet. I have a Galation QE in 22 caliber and it is anything but quiet, I would not be shooting it with close neighbors and that's for sure. Maybe the Galatian is different to the other Hatsans but is is definitely not a quiet gun even in 22 caliber, Neil.

Never heard a Galatian fire, but my AT44 long QE 22 cal is pretty quiet. As a reference, I have shot with a 22 cal Marauder and even though the AT44 long is more powerful it was quieter. Even the owner of the Marauder agreed it was.

I think the noise can certanly be somewhat relative, as I compared to both a larger caliber and magnum springers. I also consider what my wife says when Im shooting :) My AT44 long .25 non QE/no LDC is louder. Rick Eutsler measured the .30 at around 100db which is around that of a magnum springer (mod 125 @ 98db) but seemed less to me because of the resonation I get from springers. Not quiet, but suppressed enough for my purposes when shooting targets. CP

If I were you I would lean towards the BT65 .30 with the QE Shroud. But here is the kicker, I would remove the shroud and get a separate LDC. I have the Hatsan AT44-10 QE .22 and started to notice accuracy issues. The issues completely went away when I removed the QE Shroud baffles and shot without them. The shroud has four pieces inside, two plastic and two aluminum. The plastic pieces are wrapped with a fabric material that assists in reducing the muzzle report. I noticed that both plastic pieces had damage as if the pellets had been clipping them for a while. It was definitely affecting my accuracy. Once I removed them, the rifle became a scalpel. I have recently purchased a BT65 .25 with a Neil Clague Carbon Fiber LDC and the accuracy is amazing and it is whisper quiet (no shroud). Bwalton has also removed the QE Shroud from his BT65 .30 and has added an LDC. Deadly accurate.

Hope this helps.

Hunter my Galation QE has huge holes in the baffles, as I bought it used, maybe the previous owner had opened up the holes because of clipping problems. I have my doubts as to how accurately the shroud and barrel are aligned because even with a 7 inch LDC on the Galatian it still sounds loud to me. I might take my shroud off and just try it with an LDC on it, or just make a new shroud for it. For you who have removed the factory shroud what is involved? I have not even looked at mine yet, just too busy at the moment playing with some custom shrouds. Let me know on how to remove the shroud, that would be greatly appreciated, Neil.

Remove the end cap and take out the 2 plastic and two metal internal baffles. You need 14mm racket long enough to reach the nut at the end of the barrel, about 6-8 inch extender. Unscrew the nut and pull the shroud off.

It works much better than the shroud, the first thing I noticed when I removed my shroud was the barrel points to the right, obviously the shroud sitting in its groove in the stock held it centered, so my POI was way off to the right. Once I had adjusted my scope it was shooting a lot better and quieter too. I may make a full shroud that opens up into a larger OD moderator at the end of the air tube just to see how it works. I really don't like the barrel pointing off to the right and the only way to center it is with either a barrel band or a shroud so the obvious choice for me would be the shroud and get rid of the factory shroud. I have a moderator made to fit the factory shroud that is going begging if anyone wants it, it is .22 but I can bore it out for .25, Neil.

I sent you an IM relative to the LDC.

I have the same issue with my AT44-10 .22. I had you make an over the shroud LDC for me a few months ago which worked perfectly. However, I found that the factory shroud was still causing issues so I had to remove it. Therefore, I cannot use the LDC anymore because it does not fit the barrel without the shroud attached. I would love to have one that fits the AT44 without the shroud.
